Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church began
in May 1948 when 17 Jacksonville residents met with Lutheran church officials to discuss the formation of a new Lutheran church
in Jacksonville. The first worship service was held June 20, 1948. The congregation was formally organized on November 28,
1948, with 53 charter members.
The church worshiped at the Jacksonville Y.M.C.A. until January 1950. From January 1950
until July 1956, worship was held in a parsonage/chapel the congregation built at 316 East Superior.
The first unit of the present building was dedicated in July 1956. An addition
was constructed in 1983 and a major remodeling of the worship area undertaken in 1988. In early 1997, we completed another
facilities expansion and remodeling project which resulted in a larger after-service gathering area, new and larger restrooms,
new offices, a crib and toddler nurseries with an adjoining toddler restroom, and adult education space. In January 2002,
we completed construction of a new, larger worship area, and converted the former sanctuary into Sunday School space. We now
have roughly 13,000 sq. ft. of usable space for worship, education, fellowship, service, and witness. Yet in all of this facilities
expansion, we focus not on buildings but on the mission that God as given us to worship, to make disciples, and to respond
to people’s hurts and hopes as servants in Christ's name.
We are a congregation of diverse people (farmers, teachers,
homemakers, blue collar workers, white collar workers, and more) who are united by faith, love, and devotion to God in Christ
Jesus.
