Creations
are made of 100% wool which is shaped by felting needles. Felting needles are little barbed skewers which when thrust
into the wool push and pull the fibers resulting in a felted product. Imagination
and clever manipulation of the wool can then be transformed into three dimensional felted dragons, animals, fish and fowl.
I buy all
my wool directly off the sheep’s back and then scour (clean) and dye the fleece.
Once the piece is shaped by needle felting, I give the “skin” a surface washing in warn soapy water which
seems to calm the more fluffy fibers and helps toward a finished look. I have
many of pieces in my home and have found that after a year’s period of time they can be brightened the same way. Simply pour some warm water in a dish, add ivory soap and gently rub the solution
into piece with your finger. The soap seems to evaporate well enough by itself
or if you choose, blot excess with a damp cloth. Enjoy!
