Oyster Club is composed of 2 of
the 3 original members from the band Home Planet, Steve Tarnoff:
Singer/songwriter and guitarist, and Mike Roux: drummer and backup vocalists.
Former Home Planet bass player Mark Whitten is in another band at this time.
(Home Planet has not been together since the end of the last millennium). Joining “Oyster Club” provisionally as time
and college permits is Martin Tarnoff a.k.a. Suiauthon Lhûgrancion (son of band
leader Steve Tarnoff) playing bass and adding some younger blood to the
trio.
The band plays 60’s and 80’s
influenced rock with a philosophy that rock music is essentially plugged-in
folk music. Oyster Club continues to perform Home Planet music (which can be
purchased on CD baby.com and other online outlets) and has composed more tunes
now released on the CD, "Grateful Living In The Shadows". The CD is a
three act program touching on various aspects of the human condition. In short,
world/global conditions, relationships, spirituality and death.
At present we are working on
more material and experimenting with new musicians, instruments, and styles.
The seeds of inspiration for the next future CD are being sown.
Oyster Club is named after one
of the several intellectual clubs whose membership was composed of prominent
intellectuals from the Scottish enlightenment (e.g. economist Adam Smith;
philosopher David Hume; geologist James Hutton. Benjamin Franklin dropped in as well). We could all use some
enlightenment.

GIGS - Past and present
(We don’t play that often so catch us when you can)
·
FRIDAY, JULY 31ST
at 10:15 pm. We will be playing at TAIX 321 LOUNGE . Martin will be
on bass, and Shuli on bassoon.
·
We played a private
party April 4th as “Stripped
Oyster Club” at TAIX with some added woodwinds (bassoon) and guest Shuli. Martin was not be there on bass.
·
Martin Tarnoff was on
College break during our gig Friday January, 16th, 2009 tentatively
to be our CD release gig at TAIX 321 LOUNGE (CD info below) but the CD came out March 2009.
·
TAIX 321
LOUNGE Friday, August 1st 2008 was suppose to be Martin’s
last gig before Going to college but he was sick and we went on without him
as “Stripped” Oyster Club. We were well
received even without a bass player. We did several songs for the first time in
public as well, we were sorry that Martin could not be there but “the show must
go on”.
·
Our last gig with Martin
before he went to Bard College was: SATURDAY JUNE 7th 2008 at the
annual community arts festival on the grounds of: Betty
Plasencia Elementary School (our first
gig was at the festival in 2007).
·
A synopsis of our gig
Friday September 21st 2007 (first club gig as Oyster Club) at TAIX 321 LOUNGE by Steve Tarnoff.
We had a very good reception, in other words enthusiastic
applause and thumbs up. I can't seem to shake the Jell-O Biafra comparison of
my voice but hey what's wrong with a Jell-O-Neil Young-Clash-ska-country-surf-a
dash of Black Sabbath/Joy Division-eclectic mélange, kind of like seafood/oyster
chowder. Martin playing bass and keeping up with it all impressed the 20’s
something crowd at the bar. In the
words of a young Jimmy Paige/Marc Bolin look alike: "He was awesome". I got to debut my post-cancer song
"like a sieve" and a few songs that may have not been performed in
public before, or maybe once or twice long ago in another life.
