Pictured above are some of my older Pepsi:Cola bottles, starting from the left: [No. RI8-V1] Clear, embossed in center; "Pepsi:Cola(in script), bottlingworks, Richmond,Va.", back reads "Trademark, registered", at base on back reads "Mininum contents 6 1/2 fluid ozs." Second: [No. RI3] Very dark, S.C.A., embossed at base on front; "This bottle not to be sold, Pepsi:Cola(in script), Richmond,Va.", at base on back reads "Registered", bottom reads "A.G.W.,60". Third: [No. RI2-V1] Ice blue, embossed in slugplate; "Richmond, Pepsi cola bottling co, inc., Pepsi:Cola(in script), Richmond,Va.", bottom has an embossed good luck cross. Fourth: [No. RI1] Clear, embossed in slugplate; "Pepsi cola bottling co., inc., Pepsi:Cola(in script), Richmond,Va.", bottom reads "A.G.W.,51", at base on back reads "Registered". Far right - Bowling pin X 3: [No. RI6-V1] S.C.A., at the shoulder is embossed; "Indian Rock Ginger Ale" (in script), center slugplate is embossed; "Richmond, Pepsi:Cola Co (in script), Richmond, Va.", at base reads "7 fluid ozs.", bottom reads "A G W 249".

In the above text inside of the brackets, for example: [No. RI6-V1] contains each bottle's number as listed in the "PEPSI:COLA BOTTLES COLLECTORS GUIDE by James C. Ayers" There are two volumes, and the bottles above are listed in the first volume.

-- From the left, bottles #3 and #6 (on the side of a small stream) were found on the surface, in plain sight. #1 and #2 were on the surface, under a house and rescued before it's demolition. #4, #5 and #7 were found about eight inches below the surface. All three bowling pins were found on the same day.

Pictured on the left is a eight sided, Richmond, Va., 6-1/2 ozs., Pepsi:cola. I dug this on August the 25, 2003. It was very hot and humid that day. This bottle was found next to some broken glass that I was pulling to the surface from 10 - 12 inches below and through a thick root system, next to a large tree. I was hunting and digging at this site because they are going to level this place (update - they did... it's now a subdivision). 1920's milk bottles were my objective, but many other treasures have been found nearby. The Pepsi was the only embossed bottle that I dug that day. Another treasure yielded by the "Money house". My bag was light on the way home and my smile was big!

Over on the right is a Rarity 4 PEPSI:COLA - PET3 From PETERSBURG, VA. I dug this on Thursday, October 12, 2006, next to a very large tree. The tree's roots around and above me were as much as 10 inches thick and going in every direction. When this bottle was pulled from the compact dirt below, I was sideways and slightly upside down. This was the only way to get to it, that is, without a chain saw. I put in 4.5 hours and figured I could leave early after digging this one. This is the hardest to dig/find Pepsi around here. In the first Ayer's book it is listed on page 92. It's hard to tell in the photo, because of bad lighting, but the glass has a yellowish tint to it. This was the norm for this variant. It is 6.5 Oz., and very crude for an early machine made bottle, dating 1918-1922.

Sign details : ENJOY, PEPSI:COLA, MADE ONLY BY PEPSI COLA COMPANY L. I. CITY, NY, HITS THE SPOT (with musical note bookends), BOTTLED LOCALLY BY AUTHORIZED BOTTLERS.

History and timeline : In 1931, The Loft Candy Company and it's president, Charles G. Guth, acquires the National Pepsi:Cola Company and reformulates the syrup formula. In 1935, Guth moves the entire Pepsi:Cola operation to LONG ISLAND CITY, NEW YORK and sets up national territorial bounderies for the Pepsi bottler franchise system. In 1940, The Pepsi:Cola Company makes advertising history with "Nickel, Nickel" (which contains the lyrics : HITS THE SPOT), the first advertising jingle to ever broadcast nationwide on radio.

The signs have a heavy coat of dirt and grime, along with a little mud, oil and spray paint also. This is how they appeared when they arrived. They were cut and used as a wall section. Electrical outlets were (unfortunately) also cut, one in each sign. The backs are painted in a shade of grey. On one of the backs, in the middle, it reads: STOUT SIGN CO., ST. LOUIS, MO. Both of the signs show clues of being framed originally or bordered.

A similiar sign (#0516) is pictured in the 2002 book "THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PEPSI:COLA COLLECTIBLES by Bob Stoddard", on page 84. Sign #0516 has a white frame, a large 5¢ (circled in the bottom right corner) and is made of metal. It is 48" x 96" as well.
These signs are possibly unique.
