GET OUT!...

Life is too short to sit in front of your computer.  So we are taking the advice of a Life is Good t-shirt and "getting out".

Our outdoor interests in the summer are hiking and biking.  In the winter we love to downhill ski.  And we've talked about trying snowshoeing but haven't done it yet.

This summer we are also training to walk - I said walk, not run - the Portland Marathon.  So far, the training schedule has been going well.  As of June 11, 2005 we are on schedule to do our long walk of 10 miles.  Each week we walk one long walk at a moderate speed and 2 shorter walks at a faster pace.  Wish us luck to walk all 26 miles on October 9, 2005.

We will post our current schedule of hiking or biking or skiing around town and the local area.  Want to join us?  Check out this page for updates on what's going on.  Any questions?  Email Gary.  He's the man with the plan.

Pictures From Snow Lake Hike

It was a small group. Just Cindy and Tom Paulsgrove along with Anita and me.

On the way up there's not much to see, but a mountainside going up and up. I catch a picture on the way down because I realize just how steep the hillside was where the trail wound its way and did its switchbacks.

OK, first picture is when we finally crest over the ridge and get a first glimpse of Snow Lake. It's funny. Everyone stops here and looks, and it's not even the best view. We are all just glad to get over the hardest part of the hike.

This picture looks a little grainy because I zoomed in as much as I could with the digital camera. But in the middle, if you can imagine, sits the ruins of an old cabin. All that's left is the foundation and part of the fireplace.

Ah, here's a better picture of the ruins. Just before getting to the shore of the lake you can walk up and look around the cabin site. Here's Anita, sittin' pretty.

After eating our snacks on the shore and just before going back, we walked a little further to a point in the shore that's a rock outcropping high above the water. It was a little windy.

See what I mean by steep? I had the ladies turn around for a picture on the trail on the way back.

Snow Lake Hike -- short report

The afternoon hike to Snow Lake was very nice. I have some pictures from the digital camera but have not had the time to post them yet. They'll be coming soon.

On the hike we enjoyed switchbacks on the steeper terrain, visiting the ruins of a cabin (the only thing left is the foundation and the fireplace, and sitting by the lake while eating snacks.
