GET OUT!... Life is too short to sit in front of your computer. So we are taking the advice of a Life is Good t-shirt and "getting out". Our outdoor interests in the summer are hiking and biking. In the winter we love to downhill ski. And we've talked about trying snowshoeing but haven't done it yet. This summer we are also training to walk - I said walk, not run - the Portland Marathon. So far, the training schedule has been going well. As of June 11, 2005 we are on schedule to do our long walk of 10 miles. Each week we walk one long walk at a moderate speed and 2 shorter walks at a faster pace. Wish us luck to walk all 26 miles on October 9, 2005. We will post our current schedule of hiking or biking or skiing around town and the local area. Want to join us? Check out this page for updates on what's going on. Any questions? Email Gary. He's the man with the plan. Sunday, July 3, Rachel Lake / Rampart Ridge We did the Rachel Lake hike on Sunday. We didn't ask anyone else to join us because we were trying to use the hike in lieu of our normally scheduled marathon training walk. we should have walked 12 miles. If we had done this hike to the end, it would have been 11 miles. But the hike was more difficult than we had anticipated and we only went as far as Rachel Lake. Another 1.5 miles along Rampart Ridge would have made it 11 miles. Although it was more difficult, it was quite fun. We had to traverse quite a few streams, mud holes, and logs in the trail. It is not a maintained trail, but the trail is fairly obvious because a lot of people hike it. We did manage to loose the trail 3 or so times because of switchbacks, but it was easy to find and get back on the main trail due to the fact that a lot of folks have hiked it.If you are up for a work out, go try it. The woods are beautiful and we have read that if you make it up to Rampart Ridge you can actually see Snoqualmie Pass. We'll post pictures later. posted by Anita at Wednesday, July 06, 2005 |
