In 1986, I wanted to do something to bring color and design to my walls that was inexpensive, but could be easily changed by someone buying our home in the future.  Stenciling was the perfect solution!  Unlike wallpaper, which is a nuisance to remove, stenciling can just be painted over.  Then when I tried to find a stencil that I liked, there was very little to choose from in the stores.  So, I tried designing and cutting my own stencil design to match my curtains.  The stenciling came out great, and I was so excited about the results that I decided there was a business in what I just did!  So, in November 1987, I started "Custom Stenciling by Constance".
 
I became a member of the Stencil Artisans League and attended their conventions, where I was able to take courses to enhance my stenciling skills.  In 1991, I also took classes on faux finishing and added that to the services I provided in my business.
 
Over the last 16-plus years, I have had a very successful business, working in private homes, businesses, and model homes.  My stenciling has been published in two books, "Smart & Simple Decorating" & "Stenciling Techniques".  I have also been featured in local newspaper articles, and demonstrated stenciling on a local cable show.
 
A few years ago, I had to discontinue offering faux finishing services due to muscle problems.  And now, as of March 2004, I have decided I also need to discontinue doing stenciling for others.  This all presents me with the time to offer classes to teach others what I have learned over the years, as well as to consult and design custom stencils.
