Ripped from the Headlines: "A Sight To Behold"

Sky Watching
By Gemsong

Just a drabble.
---

It was cold on Jack's observation deck. There was a heavy layer of snow on the ground and surrounding houses. The last couple of storms had been brutal. But tonight, the sky was clear. Overhead, the stars were bright against the velvet darkness of the sky.

He shifted in his chair. He was dressed warmly and wrapped in a couple blankets. His gloved hand reached out from under the blanket to pour himself another cup of hot chocolate. He took a sip letting it warm him as his eyes focused on the east in waiting.

He wasn't disappointed. The full moon was rising. Yet instead of the bright silver it normal cast down on the earth, it was dim and dark, with a reddish tinge as it rose over the mountains.

Jack smiled and shifted the warm bundle that was sleeping beneath the blankets on his lap.

"Danny," he said, uncovering the child's face to the cold air.

Blue eyes blinked as 9-year-old Daniel make a face at the cold air. "Jack. What?" he mumbled.

Jack straightened Daniel's glasses on his face and turned him toward the moonrise. "A full lunar eclipse," he replied.

Daniel's eyes widened as he woke up further. "Wow..." he whispered. The moon had never seemed so huge before.

Jack smiled. "Very wow," he said quietly. Sharing this moment with his son.

The End
