Jack’s mouth was tight as he looked out the large picture window. The snow was coming down in big fat flakes coating the trees, bushes and ground with a sheet of white. He lived in Colorado Springs. Smack dab in the Rockies. Snow was a state pastime.

After this batch of snow was finished Jack thought about all the stuff he would need to do. His weekend would be pretty much be shot as a result. He’d have to shovel the snow and make sure to de-ice the steps. His back creaked a protest with the thought. Then of course get the driveway plowed. He’ll probably have to dig out after the city plows get down with his street when they finally make it that far.

Jack sighed. He hated snow.

An insistent tug on his pant leg drew his attention away from the window. Danny stood next to him, looking up at him with bright blue eyes.

“Daddy?” Danny asked looking up at Jack, with a wide gap-toothed smile.

“Yes, Danny?” Jack answered unable to prevent his expression from softening.

Danny held up his hat and mittens. “Snow Daddy?”

A few minutes later a well bundled little boy was bouncing around in the back yard. Jack’s smile had grown huge as he watched his son try to catch snowflakes on his tongue.

He loved the snow.
