bcpcnet-modcasts: Phisher Email Example
BCPCNet-Modcast (audio / visual)... "Phisher Email Example" http://www.bluecollarpc.net/downloads/PhisherEmailExample.wmv This bcpcnet-modcast is an excellent view and information on a real phisher email targeted as a credit card account rip-off
scam that is so common these days. This is a typical unfortunate event that has costed over 3 billion dollars in e-thefts
for just Americans alone in this past year 2007. As Webmaster and Modcaster I mentioned that I would post as much information
and tutorials as I could (and also to our groups/lists) for this new year - 2008. This is a VERY good example - a VERY real
one - of a VERY real phisher email with a lot of good information about how to treat these and of course a REAL look at a
real one in progress. The stats as mentioned for year 2007 in the USA were over 3 billion dolars ripped off in this exact
UCE (Unsolicited Commercial Email) email presented here. Look familiar ? I am very sorry that it would be then - but absolutely
PLAY THIS to see how to examine these with VERY good information of how to detect them as fake emails and attempted theft
of your accounts and where to report them in the very least as a "suspected phisher email" if you were not sure.

bcpcnet-modcasts: "Preventing Phisher Thefts, Criminal Cyber Gum Shoes"....
This BCPCNet-Modcast discusses the probable results of persons ripped off in phisher scams (over 3 Billion dollars USA
2007) duped by criminal cyber "gum shoes" in lesser known 'socially engineered' areas offering bad security advice intentionally
or otherwise very visibly, the catastrophic results, and most that could have been avoided no doubt by upgrading to Internet
Explorer Version 7, and the 'usual suspects' type activities quite noticable except perhaps by newbies (novice users).

bcpcnet-modcast: Restricted Sites Does Not Work
bcpcnet-modcast: Restricted Sites Does Not Work http://www.bluecollarpc.net/downloads/RestrictedSites-DoesNotWork.wmv (9.63M / .wmv) Audio / Visual BCPCNet-Modcast movie shows a website that was in Restricted Sites and I am at that
website navigating it with the icon in bottom bar showing it is in Restricted Sites in the Internet Browser settings (Tools
> Internet Options > Security > Restricted Sites > Sites ...or from Control Panel). I have mentioned before that
the various mass utilites entries made for this simply are nothing more than a False Sense of Security. I have said that because
I have seen this - and now proof here as I was able this time to capture it on e-film. As well, it is possible these type
utilties can cause "incremental damage" to the Windows Registry thus in the worst case scenario causing, yes, the Windows
Operating System to fail and / or other softwares such as an antivirus program for example. Go To our "Windows Registry Information"
webpage here Windows Registry Information for full details explaing this. For XP Users the maximum size of the Windows Registry
is 200M (Microsoft increased) and for earlier systems only a very modest 12M. You type a large email and it can get to 200K
to 300K easily. This is not hard to understand that adding thousands or a million one liner domains (Example.com) or individual
URLs (http : // something - is URL) to achieve "safe browsing - no malware will install because site is blocked in Restricted
Sites" at some point of continual "updates" (adding more sites and domains) is going to exceed the Microsoft: Windows Registry
Limits Imposed . This is the major reason I stopped using them years ago along with the fact that I discovered they do not
work many times - it has been circumvented and cannot therefore be relied upon as safe except for 'feel good' surfing (false
sense of security). 9.63M / .wmv

security. Some disturbing and alarming ignorance involving WEP encryption verses new WPA -actually a couple years

bcpcnet-modcasts: Linux OS Orientation
Audio}}} 30.4M "Linux OS Orientation" http://www.bluecollarpc.net/downloads/LinuxOS_Orientation.mp3Linux OS Orientation.... This is about a half hour chat as an orientation to the alternate Linux Operating System. It
is not a technical discussion at all. The basis for this orientation is to familiarize persons with the free Linux OS as a
security option for older Windows machines. Microsoft has discontinued support except for Windows XP SP 2 (service pack 2)
and newer Vista. This means no more critical updates and just now in April 2007 was the .Ani Cursor zero day exploite leaving
unpatched machines to fend fo themselves with paid subscription antivirus and antispyware employing heuritics and defintions
as the only security defenses along with a firewall. Enter Linux OS, the alive operating system with all the normal updates
and upgrades ongoing we have been used to and including crtical security updates. The several items up front are the different
"distros" available that are the distributions of Linux OS on CD's such as Mandriva, Debian, Ubuntu, and Suse. Linux OS is
a step down from Windows and does not have the normal "installers" accustomed to. To get Linux either takes ordering the CD
software free from Ubantu or a few dollars for others and more if softwares are included - or downloading it and burning it
to Cd's to then install it. There is also the ability to burn the 'Live CD" which will not install Linux but allow it to run
on the CD. This will allow shopping around to which version you like best. Ubuntu is the only prototype windows installer
version that allows direct download and installation over the Internet which is not fully workable as yet. All this is discussed
as the main upfront things you need to know to begin and make choices.

bcpcnet-modcasts: "Registry and Files Clean Up Tips"
Movie/Tutorial }}} 24.4 M "Registry and Files Clean Up Tips"
http://www.bluecollarpc.net/downloads/Registry-Clean-Tips.wmv This Modcast is a tip showing how to first delete an empty left over folder and files after uninstalling a software,
and then the Registry items - generally using a registry cleaner. You may have thought the registry cleaner software program
removed the registry remnants of an uninstalled software, however in some cases - the registry cleaner may think items are
still part of a valid and operational software program - and the registry cleaner has not removed the registry entries at
all. Shown tips in finding the company name folder of a software as "parent folder" that software files and corresponding
registry items will be listed under - rather then the software name itself. In these cases, the parent folder in both areas
must be deleted for a "clean uninstall". Of course the reputation of a registry cleaner is based on this. You will find that
it is better to have a less and passive registry cleaner as opposed to a very agressive cleaner which will present items for
deletion that are not supposed to be delted, as shown. These are generally "dormant" (like binary system) control items for
software for interaction and are not "orphans" at all. A very aggressive registry cleaner will present these (generally callled
"Open with items" for example) and you never simply clkick okay to remove everything. A little homework, a little experience
by viewing and researching first, then will give you knowledge and confidence in deleting things safely. "Registry and Files

and double or overlapping pages when going to websites browsing the internet (frames interrupted unexpectedly). The unfamiliar
behavior points to a probable malformed adware, or Active X control from a malformed trojan/spyware package, or an Active
X control or object as part of a malformed BHO (Browser Help Object) "phantom" or invisible Toolbar in Internet Explorer or
transparent phantom "radio button" (Active X item, shortcut button in Internet Explorer). A tutorial modcast showing hunt
down of a culprit and successful conclusion with all tips for any similar situation - 'How To". ....Note: A reference to a
"Lexicon" registry item was inadvertent and it was actually "Lexico" (several items down in the registry) as the proper item.
This has no real bearing in the tutorial, as there are no actual direct removal instructions for any specified threat - but
was simply a "typo" in the tutorial I noticed, and I am adding this correction side note. bcpcnet-modcast: "Unfamiliar Browser

bcpcnet-modcasts: "Malware Botnet Cartel"
Audio}}} 26.2M "Malware Botnet Cartel" http://www.bluecollarpc.net/downloads/DestroyBotnetCartel.wma This Modcast contains my personal blunt observations about the actual greatest threat today - what is called in slang
the "zombie networks" in the world. Plainly, zombie networks are made up of hijacked average user computers that are infested
with malware and are called zombie computers individually. The other term mostly used is Botnets - meaning the same thing
- but jargon here as malware botnets rather than any other valid use type ones - but here menaing with nefarious or extremely
wicked or villainous use. I propose a new term to describe what possibly may be an alarming truth - a nefarious Botnet Cartel
- and the dawn of a Magna Carta to destroy the evil Botnot Cartel worldwide. This is a challenge in discussion for every user,
new an old, as a last ditch campaign to free every user from the "Botnet Cartel" as it is my opinion that the World Raid on
them may result in wholesale arrests even against the average user that neglected security or simply refused to purposely.
The current reports in January 2007 right off the presses are estimates of 7 to 11 percent of world computers are in a malware
botnet either by choice or neglect and directly responsible for up to 4 percent of the United States population that are suffering
Identity Theft annually and up to 60 to 70 percent of all world (UCE) Unsolicited Commercial Email - "Spam". The challenge...

persons, What is Active X in malware and why so dangerous ? A lengthy discussion about the 3 types of Active X that are generally
unknown - the Active X Control Object, Active X Control, and Active X. In malware, these three different malicious designs
of the valid Active X range from the highest severity to very severe to severe threat and generally only found in trojans
and spyware. This is a very large download - about 47M - which could take up to an hour to download. This is not uncommon
now with the MP3 podcasting discussions and see the Spyware Warriors podcasts for an excellent show. For Dial Up users, I
have created the text file of the discussion broadcast to download beneath this bcpcnet-modcast, and will also be posted to
our Groups to read. Included in the discussion is the possibility of discovery by yours truly in the first infections of the
CoolWebSearch toolbar threat - which was manually deleted by yours truly without any knowledge of removal that exists today.
Of course that cured nothing with this very singular malware as we know, it replaced itself with a new variant. See CWShredder
- the only known cure in antispyware software worldwide that was developed and successfully cleans it.

Q.) How did they do that ?
A.) Using the free oRipa Screen Recorder, and narration over with Windows Movie Maker. The quality can be better with
MSN Recorder for instance that also films Instant Messenger sessions or Desk Share and counterparts for example. Quality in
the free one is better without moving around a lot with the cursor or navigation. BCPCNet-Modcasts are pgraded to a shareware
version - but if experiencing threat problems the free one can "film" what is happening on your computer screen and post
for help - "one picture is worth a thousand words".
To view or listen - just right click the symbol (download icon) and on the menu click "Save Target As" to download
to your Desktop or My Documents folder for example, and then click it or right-click it and on the menu click Play. It will
open in your Windows Media Player automatically.
