From the Paleo-Indians of Mesoamerica
to World War II and beyond, history teaches us lessons from which we should learn. Through these lessons, I will
encourage your child to expand his/her mind, ask questions, and show their creative side.
5th Grade
The students are finishing their cooperative Regions of the United
States project which will be hanging outside our classroom shortly.
This month, our focus will be early cultures, such as the Anasazi,
Olmec, Aztec, Maya and Inca peoples.
6th Grade
The students began chapter 2 recently, which discusses the
first people, migration, and early agriculture. This week the students learned about the Ice Ages and archaeological sites
where early humans were found. Then they worked in groups of four to conduct research on an archaeological site I assigned
them. Later in the week, the groups orally presented their findings. Their work is hanging proudly in our classroom!
7th Grade
This month our focus will be European exploration. The students
will be expected to map the routes taken by Columbus, Balboa, and others. They will also write a "journal entry" from the
point of view of an explorer or a Native in the lands being explored.
8th Grade
We are continuing our studies of the Civil War this month.
Last week the students worked in groups of four to construct a timeline showing the events that led up to the Civil War. Such
events included Uncle Tom's Cabin is published, The Missouri Compromise passed, Lincoln elected president, etc. The
students will also have a Civil War project due Friday 10/30, which will be discussed in class this week.
**Math Mania project is due Friday October 30.**
We are having a Halloween Dance on Friday October 30th. Please send your child
with a $2.00 donation (due tomorrow) so they can participate in the dance. **Reminder: students are not permitted to wear
costumes; they can "dress down".
