All students growing up in Jersey City face the normal challenges of coping with everyday issues and problems. Society imposes on them changes that force them to question their own values, expectations and behavioral standards. Some also bear the added burdens of abuse, neglect, failure, disabilities, divorce and many other traumatic situations as well. Today, self-direction, personal integrity and a sense of self worth are vital to their futures. Students need the guidance of supportive adults whose role is to impart and to reinforce those same values, to lift them up when they are in distress, and to guide them in an appropriate direction.
