Autism
Spectrum Disorder
Dear EMS providers,
At their May 16, 2008 meeting, the Indiana EMS Commission was required to certify autism training for EMS personnel via House Enrolled Act 1171 (Autism Training for EMS Personnel) and approved the Indiana Resource Center for Autism curriculum. The Commission mandated that all currently certified EMS personnel must complete autism training by December 31, 2010 (date extended from October 1, 2010 at March 27, 2009 Commission meeting). Additionally, since January 1, 2009, all new EMS course applications must include the approved autism curriculum.
At their July 25, 2008 meeting, the Indiana EMS Commission approved for the IDHS Training Division staff to develop an online training program to meet the objectives of the approved autism curriculum and to offer this course via distance/distributive education.
IDHS is pleased to announce that the new online program “Autism Spectrum Disorder – Info for Firefighters and Emergency Service Personnel” is live on the Indiana First Responder Learning Management System! You will need your PSID to log in to the system and enroll in the course. Once you have completed the course, you will be able to print a certificate of completion—you may include this with your recertification paperwork and submit a copy to your training officer (if necessary).
You only have to complete the autism curriculum/training one time. If you have already completed this training, or the train the trainer sessions, you do NOT need to take the course again.
Below is the link to the Indiana First Responder Learning Management System, please follow the instructions for course enrollment via the link at the bottom of the page

Julia
