Sunday 8:00am
This is a quiet dignified service.
Before this service there is time for quiet prayer and reflection.
During the service we use the Book of Common Prayer for Rite ll Holy Communion.
Sunday 10:00am
This lively service is appropriate for children of all ages. During the school
year, children are invited to participate in Sunday School and
child care is provided for children under five. After the sermon, at the mid-point of the service,
those in Sunday school and child care come in and join us for communion. We
have an intergenerational approach to worship and our young and old sing in
the choir and actively participate in the service.
Holy Communion
Communion is also called Eucharist which means thanksgiving in Greek. During the communion we ask for, give and receive forgiveness from God and from one another. In this we way we are drawn together in community, or communion. The bread and the wine which come from God’s creation and are formed by human hands become the body and blood of Jesus. These common gifts are made holy by Christ’s presence. All are welcome at Christ’s table. It is not uncommon to have 90 year olds receiving communion next to babies. We believe that these gifts are given by God to nourish us and strengthen us to do Christ’s work of justice seeking, peace making and reconciliation.
Seasonally
We follow the church calendar, celebrating the seasons of the Church Year. These seasons are Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost. They represent Jesus's birth, life, death, resurrection, ascension and the power of the Holy Spirit. Frequently on major church holidays we celebrate by creating art, acting out plays and offering seasonal music.
Special Worship Services
Healing Prayer
The first Sunday of each month, during both services, we offer healing prayer with laying on of hands and anointing with oil. You are welcome if you want prayers for yourself or for others.
Christmas Eve 4:00pm
During this candlelight, family service, we retell the Christmas story. As we tell the story and sing our favorite Christmas carols the congregation
is invited to place figures of the nativity into the scene on the altar. After we fill the crèche, we receive Holy Communion.
Christmas Eve 11:00 p.m
This is a wonderful candlelight festival of communion and singing which ends after midnight on Christmas morning.
Christmas Day 9:00am
This is a quiet service to welcome Christmas morning with prayer, a sermon and Holy Communion.
Blessing of the Animals (See special section)
Each year on Good Shepherd Sunday (3 weeks after Easter), we celebrate God’s gift of creation. On this Sunday, our service is held outdoors. Folks come with their pets, farm animals, and friends.
We worship, pray, sing and share communion.
Our priest blesses each animal individually.
Beautiful certificates are given as a
remembrance of the day. Each year we have
been blessed by the presence of Massachusetts
State Troopers and their horses.
Maundy Thursday
The Thursday before Easter we have a causal service of readings and communion held in our parish hall. During this service, we remember our history and Jesus’s dinner with his disciples the night before he was crucified. This service is based on a traditional, Jewish Seder. Stories from Exodus are read and acted out by the guests. Don't be surprised if it hails or frogs jump out on the dinner table! This service is appropriate for children and adults. We ask people to RSVP to the office so that we can set a place for you. We also ask that you bring food to share for a potluck dinner.
