Paper is one of the most versatile mediums to work with in the world. Not only does it provide an effective surface to communicate with, it is so flexible you can sculpt with it.

The artwork you see here is an example of what can be done using a complicated form of paper sculpture I created.

Why this art is unique

What you're looking at for the most part is Dimensional Art formed from hand-made oriental papers such as mulberry and rice. Images are first formed from clay and then cast in plaster. When dry, these plaster -cast forms are used as the basis to build the paper sculpture on. It is a modified version of the method they call "paper casting" in that it does not use the paper in a pulp form much as they use to produce paper mache. The hand made paper is worked while wet though.

These are limited editions

Using this process I can produce a limited number of original pieces of art before the form is no longer viable. I am creating no more than 25 of each image for this reason and they are signed and numbered. The interesting thing about this artwork though, is the fact that each piece, though produced the same is subtly different due to the nature of the paper used, and thus no two are exactly alike.

These paper sculptures are mounted black-laquered wood and can be hung just as they are.

When room lighting changes throughout the day, these works of art change with it as the shadows create another layer of dimension that has to be seen to be experienced.

This artwork is very suitable for Asian or Mediterranean design themes, but works equally well in virtually any decor.
