Firefox Stuff

Extensions I would recommend to most users are bold.
Extensions that I find very useful/important are italicized.

Adblock Filterset.G Updater

works with Adblock (or Adblock Plus) to update your filter list with Filterset.G, the best Adblock filter set around

Adblock Plus

blocks ads using customizable filter lists (like Filterset.G), with whitelist capabilities

AniDisable

stops animated *.GIF files (you can toggle on and off via the right-click/context menu)

Clean And Close

makes the Clean Up button on the Downloads dialog also close the window

Crash Recovery

restores tabs if Firefox crashes (or if you set extensions.crashrecovery.resume_session_once to true)

Download Statusbar

monitors downloads in statusbar (bottom of window) instead of separate Downloads box

dragdropupload

lets you drag a file from Windows Explorer into Firefox (e.g. a "Browse..." box or "Add attachment" link in Gmail) for uploading stuff

Duplicate Tab

replicates the current tab, including history (back/forward) by keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+T) or mouse (right-click)

FEBE

backs up FF profile information (your extensions, settings, passwords, etc.)

Flashblock

prevents Flash animation from automatically playing (click to view)

Gmail Notifier

provides a simple notifier for Gmail users (statusbar or toolbar)

keyconfig

customizes keyboard shortcuts (I believe you can uninstall this after configuration and retain any changes)

Linkification

makes text URLs (like http://www.google.com/) into clickable links (automatically or upon command)

Long Titles

simply prevents tooltips from line-breaking because of length (this may possibly conflict/overlap with Popup ALT Attributes)

MediaPlayerConnectivity

prevents embedded media (audio/video) from automatically playing; you can click to view in standalone player

Menu Editor

lets you modify the right-click/context menu (remove and reorder entries)

Nuke Anything Enhanced

right-click and remove anything from a page (useful when deleting stuff from a page before printing), and has limited undo capabilities

PDF Download

when you click a link to a PDF file, gives you file size and offers download/view options

Permit Cookies

adds a toolbar/statusbar icon to set a site's cookie privileges

Popup ALT Attributes

shows picture's ALT text on mouse hover (like in IE) (this may possibly conflict/overlap with Long Titles)

PrefButtons

gets toolbar entries for toggling Java, JavaScript, proxies, images, etc. (I use it for a Java checkbox)

QuickRestart

just adds a Tools menu entry for restarting Firefox

SearchBox Sync

synchronizes the search (Ctrl+K) box with the webpage's current search (e.g. http://www.google.com/search?q=hello would change search box to "hello")

Smart Middle Click

enables middle-clicking of (some) javascript links

Statusbar Clock

shows date and/or time (customizable) in statusbar

SubmitToTab

enables form submit buttons to be middle-clicked or control-clicked or right-clicked to open in new tabs

Tab URL Copier

copies URLs from all open tabs, or opens copied URLs in tabs

undoclosetab

lets you reopen closed tab(s) by using keyboard shortcut or middle-clicking the Close Tab icon

WindowsUpdate

simply adds an entry into the Tools menu to the Windows update site in IE

I may have had to manually modify one or more of the extensions to allow them to install on FF 2.0+. (rename *.xpi file to *.zip, change em:maxVersion field in install.rdf)

Extensions I'm trying out:
-

Extensions I've tried but uninstalled:
-ForecastFox (took up too much room, not very lightweight)
-Attributes (I temporarily install sometimes to get names/attributes of certain XUL elements)
-Tab Mix Plus (not lightweight, didn't retain all capabilities of Duplicate Tab)
-Highlight Focus (achieved same effect with userContent.css modification)

Here are my heavily customized userChrome.css and userContent.css files (help, more help)

Also, going to about:config (type that in your address bar) gives you access to advanced options.
(I've made too many changes there to individually list here.)

Lastly, a screenshot.
