Religion, Politics
An encapsulation of my religious beliefs and political views:
Religion
I consider myself a Christian; more specifically, a Protestant; more specifically, a Calvinist.
Brief summary of TULIP (acronym meant to summarize some emphases of Calvinism, or Reformed theology)
Politics
Politically, I identify myself as liberal, largely because of the issue of economic inequality. I am a registered Democrat.
Like Paul Krugman, "I believe in a relatively equal society, supported by
institutions that limit extremes of wealth and poverty. I believe in democracy,
civil liberties, and the rule of law. That makes me a liberal, and I’m proud of
it." (The Conscience of a Liberal)
I do differentiate between my personal religious
beliefs and my political views. As John Kerry said, "...I can't take what is an
article of faith for me and legislate it for someone who doesn't share that
article of faith, whether they be agnostic, atheist, Jew, Protestant,
whatever. I can't do that." That is, the Bible – even presuming it is
the inerrant truth – should not necessarily be the law
in the U.S.).
