Commanding Officer: Maj Curtis H Keeler.
The September Quarterly Report notes that installation was completed on the AN/FPS 7-C Radar System. This system was one of a breed of radar sets that incorporated special devices to
combat electronic jamming. It was also designed to serve as both a search radar
system and a height finder, however the height portion never proved accurate enough for regular use.
The September report also notes that completion of a building at Blue Mountain Gap Filer Radar Site,
Blue Mountain, New York, by Base Civil Engineering to serve as sleeping quarters for radar maintenance mechanics.
Electronic equipment at the base in 1961 included the FPS-7 and CPS-60 search radars, two FPS-6 height
finder radars, two FPS-13 gap filler radars, FTS-2 equipment and ground air radio facilities.
The December Quarterly Report indicates the following numbers of assigned personnel under the command
of Major Curtis H Keeler:
Officers 7
Airmen 143
Civilians 12
Total 162
