History 1962

Commanding Officer LtCol Curtis H Keeler.

Major Keeler was promoted to LtCol.

On January 1st the FPS-7 radar completed final testing by Western Electric and was accepted into the SAGE System.

On June 30th a two-lane bowling alley was opened on base, equipped with automatic pinsetters.  Base personnel and their families regularly used the bowling alley, for league and open bowling.

In September the CPS-6H radar was dismantled and removed from the site.

In December  the FPS-26 height finder, a modern frequency diversity system, was installed to replace some of aging FPS-6 radars.

Air Ground UHF Transmitters & Receivers were relocated to the GATR Site on Leach Hill, 2.5 miles east of the present site.

1. LtCol Keeler was a member of the St. Albans Rotary Club from 1962 thru 1965.

2. The Ethan Allen Air Force Base mess hall sign was moved to the 764th Squadron and became the designation of the "Green Mountain Cousine" for our returant (Mess Hall).

3. The picture windows were on the east side of the mess hall providing a view of the beautiful "Green Mountains of Vermont".

4. 1962 also saw the construction of a beautiful all brick out door Bar-B-Que pit which was used to serve steak one day a week.

5. In 1962 we continued to use the four seasonal golf course passes the my predisessor provided for the troops.

6. In 1962 we provided winter clothing including ski boots of varying sizes and six seasonal passes to a nearby ski lodge.
