""The Hill Boys""

History 1963

Commanding officer LtCol Curtis H Keeler.

In March the base dining facility was awarded the “Hennessy Trophy”[1] as the outstanding food service facility in the air division.  This was the culmination of months of preparation by food service and civil engineering personnel, doing such things as installing picture windows in the dining hall, painting, cutting trees to open the view of Lake Champlain, and generally sprucing up and modernizing the dining hall.

In June the Air Force Beach was opened on a piece of land that was leased by the Air Force on the West Shore of Hathaway Point. The "Beach" featured a snack shack, bathhouses, the famous privy, volleyball, and boats all for the use of squadron personnel.
Comments provided March 21, 2007, by LtCol Keeler.
1. The officers club was established in 1963 using the beautiful all mahogoney bar which was "borrowed" from Ethan Allen AFB.
2. The cute little all denominational chaple was established just up the hill from the Orderly Room.
3. A curb was built by the Base Engineers completely around the tennis court.  Tlhis provided the means to flood it for an ice skateing rink in the winter.
