25 YEARS ON THE HILL – The 764th
Radar Squadron this year celebrates 25 years in St Albans, being established in November 1950.
St Albans Air Force Station is located three miles southeast of St Albans on Bellevue Hill and encompasses 135 acres
of land. A major portion of the site was formerly a state park and affords a
panoramic view of the Lake Champlain area as
depicted on the new sign at the entrance to the base. Participating
in the unveiling of the sign Friday are from left, Tech Sgt. Stanley Gray who did the art work on the sign, St Albans City
Mayor Joseph Montcalm, Brig Gen G.A. Hick, deputy commander, 21st Air Division and Lt. Col. Harvey L. Tri, Base
Commander.
The Federal Aviation Administration started to utilize the radar data from the facility in 1975, tying it into the
Air Route Traffic Control Center in Nashua, New Hampshire.
