Reunion 4 - 2001

This was the Fourth Reunion of Air Force and Civilian personnel, who were stationed, attached, or employed at the 764th Radar Squadron, St Albans AFS, Bellview Hill, St Albans, VT.  The reunion was held over Labor Day weekend, September 1st and 2nd.

The coordinator for this special weekend was: Msgt Charles (Chuck) Thweat, USAF retired, 417 Montcalm Rd, Milton, VT 05468.

Events for this special weekend were:

1.    A Dinner/Dance was held at the, American Legion Green Mountain Post #1, new hall, 100 Parha Drive, St Albans, VT, Saturday night, September 1st.  There were 82 people in attendance: 46 members, their spouses, and special guests.  Group Photographs were taken, of members, on a five-year basis from 1950 through 1979.

2.    Several members, their spouses, and guests enjoyed a Lake Champlain Brunch/Cruise on Sunday, September 2nd.

An invitation was extended to all reunion attendees, by the American Legion Green Mountain Post #1, to join the Post picnic, at the St Albans Bay Park Sunday, September 2nd.

2001 ST ALBANS AIR FORCE STATION REUNION INVITATION

Dear St Albans AFS ex‑member,

May 31, 2001

You are cordially invited to attend the fourth reunion of 764th Radar Sqdn, St Albans AFS, VT ex‑mem­bers planned for the week- end of September 1, 2001. Many new names have been added to list of folks who were stationed there during the site's years of operations, 1951 to 1979; thus we anticipate seeing a lot of new faces as well as many of the 150 to 170 who attended the past three reunions. Members, spouse and/or invited guests are welcome to attend any or all of the following planned activities:

‑9/01101 (Saturday): Dinner/Dance at the new St Albans American Legion Post located at 100 Parah Drive: 6:00 put ‑ re‑acquaintance/social hour; 7:00 p.m. ‑ dinner continuing with an extended social gathering; 8:30 ‑ music and entertainment for dancing and enjoyment by the Conrad Samuels Band A special table will be set up, so bring photos, memorabilia, etc you have for a display and plan to remind the group of any unusual or interesting stories about the site. ‑9/02/Ol (Sunday) Lake Cham1pain Scenic Brunch Cruise aboard the Spirit of Ethan Allen II: Cast Adults $19.95 ‑ children $11.95; Departs at 12:00 noon from the Burlington Boathouse, College Street, Burlington, VT. Directions ‑ From 189 take exit 14 W to down town Burlington, follow the signs to the Ferries and then go two blocks north; there is a parking lot in front of the Boathouse. See brochure. NOTE: The St Albans Historical Society now has a section dedicated to the St Albans Air Force Station in the Franklin County Museum, is looking for additional items such as memorabilia and especially a 1 hyratron Tube for the display and donations of 764th AC&W or Radar Sqdn items will be appreciated

A copy of the accumulated list of ex‑members of the St Albans AFS is attached. Please pass a copy of tills on to other ex‑764th members/spouses who may not be on our list. Also fill in blanks on the attached sample roster and send it to Garrie Skelton, 2540 Partridge Dr, Upper St Clair, PA 15241 or e‑mail it to g.r.skelton@worldnet.att.net.  Garrie is developing a comprehensive roster in Microsoft Excel 2000. A periodic "newsletter" may be possible: More information will be provided at the reunion.

For lodging accommodations call 802‑524‑2191‑Cadilac Motel, 802 524‑5956‑Econo Lodge, both on So Main St, or 800‑376‑3777 Comfort Inn, a nice hotel just off  I89 exit 19 in St Albans for reservations.

Complete and return the bottom part of this letter with a check to cover cost for either or both activities (to include dinner, tip and band casts &/or Brunch Cruise) for all persons to be attending no later than 8/21/01 so we can make firm plans for each event.
