This section covers the history of the radar site, by year, from 1949 through 1979 and the disposition of the
land from 1979 through 2008.
The United States Air Fore (USAF), Air Defense Command, purchased 180 acres of landfrom the State of Vermont. 35 acres of the land was developed for the St Albans Air Force Station (AFS) on top of Bellevue
Hill in St Albans Town, VT. The AFS is located three miles southeast of the City
of St Albans. The major portion of the site was formerly a State Park.
