Marius
was proclaimed emperor by his troops after the mutiny against and
murder of Posthumus. Little is known of him besides the fact that he
rose from very humble origins. Ancient sources claim that he reigned
only two days before being overthrown and executed by Victorinus,
although current scholars insist that his reign must have been longer,
perhaps as long as twelve weeks.
