THE BOSNIA STUDY GROUP (BSG)
A group of members of the Croatian Philatelic Society
who collect and study the stamps and postal history of Bosnia.

The Study Group has the following study in
process.
· A study and compilation of the perfins that exist on Bosnia classic
stamps. (1879 to 1918)
This
project attempts to research the existing literature and to solicit information
from perfin collectors, regarding the types and usage of the perfins of Bosnia.
The results to date are presented in a set of charts, in English. Many
questions remain unanswered and additional data is still needed. All interested
collectors are invited to participate in this project. The more people that
participate, the more complete and more accurate the result will be. (Study updated
in April 2006)
The Study Group has
completed the following studies.
·
A compilation of the postal rates of Bosnia during the period
from July 1, 1879 to November 30, 1918.
This project attempts to
research the Bosnia postal rates, in order to create a set of charts, in
English, that present this data in a compact form for use by postal history
collectors. The time period
selected encompasses the classic period of Bosnia postal history. All
interested parties are invited to participate in this project. The more people
that participate, the better and more accurate the result will be. (Study
completed on 10/12/2004)
This
investigation attempts to research the varieties and recreate the correct
plating of the 1914 First War Charity Issue. Please click on the web page for
the study results and to volunteer any information that you may have. (Study updated
on 6/29/2004)
This investigation attempts to determine the origin and reasons as to why holes were punched into stamps of the 1906 issue. Please click on the web page for the results so far and to provide us with any information that you may have to help us unravel this mystery.
This
investigation describes the background of the Banjaluka perf. 11 1/2, that was
a private perforation created by the Mariastern monastery in 1910.
In addition:
The Bosnia Study Group has prepared the following reference information for use by collectors interested in the stamps of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
1. A bibliography of articles, catalogs and handbooks on the stamps and postal history of Bosnia.
This bibliography attempts to list all of the substantive English language references relating to the classic Bosnia stamps. Although most of the references are from English language periodicals, catalogs and handbooks in other languages are also included.
2. A list of significant dates relating to the stamps and postal history of Bosnia.
This
list summarizes many of the significant dates during the period of usage of the
classic Bosnia stamps.
3. The 3rd edition of a handbook of information regarding the classic stamps of Bosnia.
The
classic stamps of Bosnia span the period from 1879 to 1918 and consist of 24
issued sets totaling 188 different stamps. A handbook entitled "The
Classic Stamps of Bosnia and Herzegovina" has been revised in 2002. This
3rd edition is now available for sale. The handbook consists of 24 chapters
describing the types and varieties, plus any forgeries and proofs, of each set
issued during the period.
4. A list of dealers, auction sites and affiliates that is relevant to collecting the stamps and postal history of Bosnia.
The study group actively solicits suggestions for additional entries to the dealer and auction web site lists.
5. A small German/English dictionary of philatelic terms.
Since
many of the catalogs and publications on Bosnia philately are written in German
and since many of our US collectors do not read that language, we have prepared
a small dictionary that may help in deciphering these German sources. We ask
those of you who speak and read German to help in this effort by providing us with
better translations (The ones posted are probably atrocious) and also by
sending us recommendations for any other entries that would be useful in such a
document.
