Welcome to the American Legion Post 527
Commander - Pat Nealon
Located in Hamburg, NY Post 527 has a rich history and an active membership.
On October 17th, 1919 fifteen local veterans
of WWI got together and applied for a charter to the newly formed American Legion. Almost a year later, on August 8th,
1920 the Post was awarded its official Charter. Their first meetings were in the Hamburg Businessmen’s Club rooms but
in 1924 the members purchased the parish hall from the St. James United Church of Christ, and relocated to what is now the
parking lot for the Legion Lanes. The Auxiliary was granted a charter in 1926 and the S.A.L. was granted a charter in 1936.
The Reveille was founded in 1950, receiving an award in 2001 as the “Top Newsletter” of all American Legion Posts
in the Country. The Legion Lanes was opened in 1964 and in 2000, the existing clubhouse was built and old one torn down.
American Legion Post 527 member’s have hosted numerous
County and State American Legion Conventions as well as bowling tournaments, Memorial and Veteran’s Day ceremonies,
free Christmas parties for local children, hospital visits and many other events.
Currently, Historian Bob Kenefic is putting together a comprehensive
history of Post 527. If you have any pictures, newspaper articles, documents, etc. that Bob could borrow and return, please
notify him at 825-1792 or send an email to HamburgLegionPost527@verizon.net and he will get back to you.
