George Street, a north-south street, ran south from Gaskell to Cedar St. between 2nd and 3rd St., and continued southward in Southwark two blocks to Plumb Street (now Kenilworth). Because it only ran half a block in the city proper (remember Cedar, now South Street, was the southern boundary of the city) and White didn't include listings in Southwark, by and large, White had no listings for this street. Oddly, MacPherson established two parts for this street, an East George Street and a North George Street, and made it clear that he considered them parts of the same street by his numbering: North George Street's numbers are a continuation of the numbering for East George. No explanation for this distinction has come to light.
The part of George north of South Street no longer exists. The two blocks on the south side of South Street are the part of American Street from South to Kenilworth.

NOTES
According to the 1909 "Publication No. 5" of the City Historical Society of Philadelphia, the actor Edwin Forrest was born in 1806 "at what was once 51 George Street," which the author of the publication stated was burnt down by the early 20th century, and also stated that Forrest's family had moved to South Street in 1810. Early Philadelphia politician Joel B. Sutherland was living at #66 George Street (it's not clear which numbering system this was, though probably Biddle's) in 1820, according to the same source.
