Swanson Street ran south from Almond Street down through Southwark by the riverside, a continuation of Little Water Street. The 1785 directories contain no addresses on this street by this name; some or all of the entries for this street may have been listed under "River-side" or as being on this or that wharf. This street was pretty well wiped out by the construction of Interstate 95, including the destruction of many 18th century houses.

NOTES:
According to the 1909 "Publication No. 5" of the City Historical Society of Philadelphia, one of the houses of the Krider family was on the corner of Swanson and Pemberton Streets (or Krider's Alley) and had "handsome doors of solid mahogany."
The original log house of the Svenson or Swanson family, one of the oldest buildings in Philadelphia (which had by 1748 become dilapidated), stood on the northwest corner of Swanson Street and Beck's Alley, "on a little knoll just north of Old Swedes' Church," according to the 1909 publication No. 5 of the City Historical Society of Philadelphia. This publication also stated that it descended to Paul Beck through the Parkhams, an English family that reportedly had intermarried with the Swansons. Early Philadelphia historian John Fanning Watson stated that the house was torn down for fuel by the British in 1777 during their occupation of Philadelphia, but the 1909 publication cited above noted that one of its members, one C. Henry Kain, said Watson was wrong, and that "up to a few years" before 1909 the old 1 1/2 story wood house was still standing, 30 feet north of Beck's Alley, fronting on Swanson Street.
