Joy Ride

Done in 1992 in colored pencil, on paper. The original now belongs to the model, but some prints are still available. This picture celebrates wheels as liberation and landing gear. 9" x 12"

Walkies

Sometimes inspiration knocks on your door with a chainsaw. This happened to me in 1992 when the tree surgeons came to work in my yard and agreed to let me take reference pictures as they worked. Doesn't everyone have dragons in their back yard? Prints available. Original is 9" x 12", prints 8 x 10"

Escapist Fiction

When the newspapers are full of starving children in desolate landscapes, sometimes those images take hold of your soul and won't let go. This ageless child did just that. She wanted to go to Mars, whose desert is not unlike her own, judging by the Viking lander photos. Her transport is a well-worn copy of Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles. Prints available Original is 9 x12"

Libation Sweeter Than Wine

While on a camping trip, a bold humming bird kept diving for my friend Rosa's red cup of fruit juice. That sort of magical moment tends to stay with you. Eventually I studied enough pictures of hummers and hands to create this salutation to a sweet oneness with nature. 9" x 12" Colored pencil on charcoal paper. This drawing was used as a study for my first acrylic painting. Will consider doing prints if I get any requests.

The Eyes Have It

My friend Rikk Jacobs (when are YOU going to make a website, Rikk?) is not only a superb art auctioneer but a talented artist in his own right. He's possibly best known for his intense close-up studies of animal eyes. Every once in a while I get an urge to tackle a Prismacolor pencil portrait of a fellow artist that says something about his or her art and personality. Usually I work on colored paper. This is the first one I did on masonite. As you go through this site you'll see I've worked on hardboard masonite quite a bit in the past year. Yet I still haven't used up the single builder's size sheet I bought last Summer and had to get cut to fit it in my car. Such is the joy of having a penchant for miniatures. 5" x7" framed in black. An 8" x10" print is available.

I hope you will have the chance to see some of my work in person at one of the shows listed in "Where's Halla?" on my Home World Page.
