"Come for the music, stay for the pie!"
The Vienna wind music scene in the 1780s - think of jazz in New Orleans at the
turn of the century, New York and Chicago in the 1920s, Kansas City in the 1930s - an incredible confluence of virtuoso musicians,
emerging instrument technology and artisan craftsmen, and the compositional genius of Mozart.
This was the setting
for the creation of Mozart's Serenade in Bb for thirteen instruments: a work that encompasses the entire range of human emotion
expressed in sound - from heart achingly lyrical expression of joy and longing to raucous 18th Century Viennese dance hall
and beer garden oom pah. Mozart's greatest work for winds.
