Sooner or later, it was bound to come up.
I was reading the PASIC loop today and somebody wanted to know the proper way of abbreviating Men in Black. The twit copyeditor wanted it to be MiB, like from the movie title. The true abbreviation is MIB.
So I wrote to this lady and added my five cents' worth of opinion. She wrote back to me that that was how she wanted it to be and that was how she was going to change it back. Screw the copyeditor.
This lady has had a gazillion books published, so I guess she can actually say that with impunity.
That word does not look right.
Anyway, when I wrote to her, I also mentioned LGMs. Little Green Men. Back in the day MIBs wandered the country purposefully chasing down people who had had encounters of any kind and making it perfectly clear to them that they were troublemakers and they'd get put in jail if they mentioned any more nonsense about flying saucers or little green men visiting Earth.
Why were the aliens from the flying saucers green?
Dunno.
Why did the MIBs actually accost people and threaten them?
I think I know.
Nobody wanted to believe that there was life anywhere else but on Earth.
Whole religions would collapse (except for the Mormons) if it came about that there were beings on other planets, no matter how far away from Earth these planets were.
The nearest planet, or presumed planet, is something like 4.7 lightyears from Earth. I'm not sure of that figure, but whatever...it's very, very far from Earth.
There's no way we have anything in the works that could get us there.
If alien beings did exist on some faraway planets and they were capable of getting to Earth with their flying saucers, I guess we'd all be up shit's creek.
They could come and go as they pleased and there wouldn't be anything we could do about it.
Probably, we'd try to shoot down the saucers or ships, or kill the aliens if we saw them.
Nice.
Nice.
And then there is the subject of God.
Would our God be the same as their God? Our God has created all things and keeps them in existence. Wouldn't you think God would have told us about beings on another planet?
Would these beings look like us, since we're created in God's image?
This is a very esoteric blog. I'm sorry if I've bored you to tears. I am not suggesting anything abnormal about God, either. Just wondering. What if God...nah, let's not go there.
Other planets, experiments in creation, different stories, different attitudes, different everything...how would we know what was right if we were proved to be seconds?
You know, like a pair of shoes with a smudge on them caused by the factory worker? Or a stuffed animal with only half an ear, or something sewed on wrong? What if we were just practice for God, and God went on to create something better somewhere else?
Look what God did with the dinosaurs.
