Dawn, Just so you know - I haven't had any connection to the newsletter since July other than posting it on my website and mailing it to the neighbors who requested I do so. I don't believe there actually is an "Association."
My belief is that when we see a need, we should "step up to the plate" and do something about it. I am very surprised and dismayed that you would accuse me of any other motives and of bullying or retaliatory behavior.
250 people in Holiday Heights signed the petitions for a park in March. I am following up on that expressed need and desire for a park, trying to help others who are too busy and too tired to spend the time and energy this requires. We really need someplace for the children to play and for us to exercise. I care about this neighborhood and the people in it.
Manatee County has NEVER treated our neighborhood well. I have heard Holiday Heights referred to as "just a transient neighborhood" since the early 70s when I was trying to stop the Manatee County School Board from switching our children from one school district to another every other year. I heard the term again, this year, from Commissioner Carol Whitmore.
If you are hoping our neighborhood won't become another "Duplex City", join me in this attempt to help our neighborhood. I need your help! Your neighborhood needs your help! On the website, http://mysite.verizon.net/holidayheights/, most of your questions should be answered. I have tried to clarify the funding issue for you on the first (Home) page. Neighborhoods are not required to pay "special taxing district" taxes for County parks. I firmly believe Commissioner McClash was trying to give us the brush off, AGAIN. The majority of the parks are funded by the parks and recreation portion of our property taxes, a portion of the gas taxes, and grants. Plus, we have an amazing offer of support from The Trust for Public Land, which Sarasota County considers an invaluable resource, to purchase the land for a park before it is too late and to hold it for us until Manatee County can line up the grants to pay for it. If people sign their names then they will be on your list. You'll look up their name, find their house and CALL IN A CODE VIOLATION IF ANY. There is no law that states that a name must be included. I am a Holiday Heights Voice and have been so for a long time and I will not be bullied or told what is best for me. And I don't like the tone of your "newsletter" imploring residents to call in violations. And also I don't like your people walking on my property and putting it in my door. When we are strong your association will know of us.

Do you have a problem with other people standing up and not going along with YOUR ideas? Can you agree to disagree? Are you aware that what may be best for some is not best for all. Can you fathom that what you think is best for the community is NOT. A lot of people don't like you turning neighbor against neighbor by calling in code violations that they might not be able to a afford to fix. Did you ever think of THAT?

Stop the anger Mary Jo. We know you send code enforcers around in retribution for those who don't go along. Its a new DAWN.

Are you kidding me? There's no way they could require us to have a special tax district - that was just a ploy to get us to ignore the de facto discrimination that is going on against us! Also, if you have a gripe - why not sign your name? Mary Jo

Dear Holiday Heights residents. In Her recent mailing Mary Jo left out the part where McClash states "Maybe we can set up a special tax district" for this park she wants. WE HAVE A WEBSITE NOW! Join us at www.myspace.com/holidayheights Our organization is called Holiday Heights VOICES. Let the county commisioners, The Bradenton Herald and Ron Getman know that we all don't want to go along with this park idea. We don't need extra taxes. And we don't need someone pretending to speak for ALL of us.
