sE Electronics "Titan"
My first reaction to the "Titan" was to call it a studio mic on
Steroids (might have to do a blood test!). This microphone allows for incredible detail, clarity and transient response. In
other words, it makes things crystal clear. When mic'ing amplifiers, it is as though I'm running guitars direct. Excellent
on bass guitar amp. I have more things to try with this before I comment more.
Z5600A 9-Pattern Tube Mic
sE Z5600-A: This is a highly regarded tube
mic with many folks saying it is one of the best under $1000. It is large and heavy affair with a heavy-duty case,
a heavy-duty power unit (with which you change polar patterns), a heavy-duty 30 ft. 7 pin cable and a heavy-duty shock
mount.

sE Electronics Z3300-A: This is new as is the Z5600A and I love this mic.
It works well on my own baritone voice and reproduces the acoustic guitar sound incredibly well. More later!
GIVE 'EM THE RACK!
Just added a new Focusrite to have 2 channels of the TrakMaster Pro.
From the Bottom-Up: ART Tube MP Studio, power unit for sE ELectronics
Z5600A Tube mic, Behringer HA4700 4-Channel Headphone Amplifier, ART MPA GOLD Two Channel Tube Microphone Pre-Amp, 2-Focusrite
Trakmaster Pro Channel Strips, Carvin PB 48 Patch Bay, NADY PCL-800 1800 watt Power Conditioner.
I pretty much run everything into the patchbay and back out again via
an 8-channel TRS to TRS snake. The patchbay makes things a lot easier when recording as it becomes the "Function Junction"
for goinintoos and gettinoutas".
I am currently running TRS to XLR male cables into channels 1 and 2
of the AW16G from the patch bay. I run 6 channels of TRS to TRS into channels 3-8 in the 16G, and use the last 2 channels
of TRS to TRS from the Monitor Out of the 16G back into the patch bay (which are then routed to the Alesis Monitoring
system)
I run a split cable from the 16G
headphone jack into the Headphone Amp (TRS split into 2 quarter inch jacks), and run the Stereo Out
into my cassette recorder.
Nuff said!!
THANK YOU GOLDS GYM FOR WEIGHTING :)
So my Studio mics are too heavy for my mic stands with the AKG KM-211
booms. What's a home recordist supposed to do? I can't afford a heavy-duty $250 studio stand let alone try to get it in my basement. So on a recent trip to "Stuff Mart", I spy these brightly decorated 10 pound microphone stand weights obviously
misplaced in the Sporting Goods department instead of their guitar department.
Not sure how they got there but for $6 bucks a pop, I plop them in
the cart and blow my months studio budget with a smile on my face. And what's even better, when I walk out the "Stuff Mart"
doors carrying these things, everybody is checkin' the old man out! (probably thinking "hope that old man doesn't keel over
and die!" :)
