Mission Statement
The
purpose of the BHS Lacrosse Team is to provide
an opportunity for young
men in the community to learn the game of lacrosse,
practice and develop the skills associated with the game, and compete with
similar clubs as a representative
of Beaverton High School.
Because student interest has exploded over the BHS Lax Program and due to the very balanced/competitive league we are in, expectations are much higher than last season. The expectations we place on the players are as follows:
Players are students first and must maintain a proper academic standing.
Players must have respect for all those involved in the program (team members, coaches, parents, officials, opponents, etc). Language, back-talking or fighting will not be tolerated and can result in termination from the team.
Once the season starts, players are committed to giving 100% to the lacrosse program.
Skill set and effort determine the level you play at (i.e. Varsity or JV). Once teams are chosen, it is possible for player movement to and from JV to Varsity.
Because of the high player turn out, the first 2 weeks of the season will be considered try-outs with no guarantees. Player metrics will be stick skills closely followed by player effort/conditioning.
Whenever possible, all players will hopefully get adequate game time, especially at the JV level, but because of the competitive league, players are not guaranteed playing time and must earn it with stick skills followed by effort.
Players will have to pass a stick test and a conditioning test. (Start practicing Wall-Ball and start running).
Players must attend all practices. If for some reason you can not attend, it must be discussed prior with the coaches. Players, who repeatedly miss practice, will have their player status reviewed and possibly canceled. At a minimum, players who miss one practice (regardless of notification) will not be eligible to start the following game.
Players are required to set personal goals prior to the season (grab x # of assists, learn to shoot left handed, etc). These will be discussed with the coaches.
It is mandatory that all players participate in fundraising activities.
Players must put the team first when it comes to personal accolades and individual participation.
The coaches welcome parent involvement and feedback in the program. As always, there is an open-door policy when it comes to concerns about your child as it pertains to the program. These concerns should be addressed in a private and confidential manner, not to be voiced during practices and/or games. Also, in order for the program to continue with its success, we look for parent-volunteers to assist and help steer the program. Each season, we need volunteers for the following roles:
Fundraising
/ Concessions? Manager
–
Treasurer -
Newsletter/Web site- Jeanine Brown
Program – Jaki Shmunk
Stat/Record Keeper Manager- organizes students to keep stats
Timers/Score keepers -
Transportation coordinator -
