After over thirty years of providing thoughtful architectural and preservation services for old buildings and their owners, we retired from active practice at the end of 2006. One of the pleasures of working as a sole practitioner, though, is sometimes being able to have your cake and eat it, too. In our case, it means that although we can no longer take on design and construction projects and other larger assignments, we do continue to undertake occasional building assessments and other consultations where a modest amount of input can have a significant result.

We also plan to maintain this website for the indefinite future as a service to our friends and clients. We have removed the purely marketing-related pages, leaving the site's useful content, in particular Observations, a collection of short articles on topics in preservation and architectural history. Some of these articles formerly appeared in our late office newsletter, The Observatory. Others were too long to include in that format, and so appeared here for the first time. All articles are indexed by title, subject, and where we did not write them, author.
