The wipers were not wiping the water off but just smearing it around. After replacing the wipers 4 times I ended up bending the arms to get the blades (about 1/2")to put more pressure on the winshield. Worked like a charm! I don't know about the grabbing though. Appears they have an aftermarket relay made by a German company. Thing costed 28 bucks Canadian, which is VERY affordable. Works like a charm. Part nos. are same as listed above. Leavitt@maclaw.law.cuny.edu (David Leavitt) writes: > So, any tips on how to do a proper wiper insert installation. > I'm all ears. OK, I paid attention this time. Here is what I do -- there may be other and better ways, too. The wiper insert is held in the blade by eight small clips, shaped like this: _______ / \ | | +- -+ The insert in itself has two grooves, the "top" and "bottom". The top groove has slightly raised part about 5mm from the end of the groove; the bottom groove ends earlier, has a gab and then a second short 5mm groove at the end of the blade where the tabs of the first clip hook onto. Consider this the "far" end of the blade. 1. Remove wiper blades from the car 2. Using a pair of pliers, grab the near end of the first the two metal strips in the top groove. Pull to remove it, and repeat for the second strip. 3. Remove old insert. 3a. The first time you do the insert replacement, use you pliers to gently bend the bottom tabs of the farmost clip down to about a 30-degree angle. This will make reinsertion much easier. 4. Slide new insert in through the clips, inserting it starting at the far end. Leave about 10mm hanging out at the far end 5. Insert the first of the metal strips into the near end of the top groove of the insert. Slide it down the insert to the end, and past the raised bit to the end of the groove. Repeat for the second strip. (The second strip will be more difficult to slide past the raised bit; you may need to assist with the pliers.) 6. Now pull the far end of the insert into the far clip; you'll need to work a bit to get the tabs of the first clip into the short groove at the far end, but with the slightly bent tabs it's not too onerous. 7. Trim off excess insert -- don't cut too short! 8. Replace blades on the car. The whole process will take 10-15 minutes for two blades, and considering the cost savings over complete Bosch blades, it's definitely worth it. -- [ /tom haapanen -- tomh@metrics.com -- software metrics inc -- waterloo, ont ] [ "everything that can be invented has been invented." ] [ -- charles h. duell, u.s. patent commissioner, 1899 ] From usc!elroy.jpl.nasa.gov!netline-fddi.jpl.nasa.gov!nntp-server.caltech.edu!ferrari.mst6.lanl.gov!newshost.lanl.gov!ncar!gatech!usenet.ufl.edu!maple.circa.ufl.edu!WHERE Mon Dec 12 12:23:30 PST 1994 Article: 45422 of rec.autos.vw Path: usc!elroy.jpl.nasa.gov!netline-fddi.jpl.nasa.gov!nntp-server.caltech.edu!ferrari.mst6.lanl.gov!newshost.lanl.gov!ncar!gatech!usenet.ufl.edu!maple.circa.ufl.edu!WHERE From: where@maple.circa.ufl.edu Newsgroups: rec.autos.vw Subject: Re: Golf /// - Programable Intermittent Date: 10 Dec 1994 23:04:15 GMT Organization: University of Florida - CIRCA Lines: 12 Message-ID: <3cdc5f$8e2@no-names.nerdc.ufl.edu> Reply-To: where@maple.circa.ufl.edu NNTP-Posting-Host: maple.circa.ufl.edu Well lacking enthusiasm for studying for finals, I went to visit my dealer to get a part # for the Corrado's "programmable intermittent" wiper relay.
