radio code manual ================= Here it is: From male!jethro!geraldo.Central.Sun.COM!sun-barr!cs.utexas.edu\ !swrinde!zaphod.mps.ohio-state.edu!rpi!news-server.csri.toronto.edu\ !utgpu!utzoo!censor!teecs!ansari Wed Jun 12 12:35:31 PDT 1991 A little while back there is was some discussion regarding the Heidelberg Stereo system with Anti-Theft coding device. When i bought my 89 Jetta, i was given Operating Instructions for the Sound System. Following is an extracted from the manual. I hope this helps in the Coding/Decoding of the system, for those who didn't receive the manual.(BTW: the manual was printed in Jan. 88) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Heidelberg 5 Stereo CR: Anti-Theft Coding the anti-theft coding will electronically prevent the radio from operating whenever ... - the coded radio is removed from the vehicle - the coded radio is disconnected from the vehicle's power supply - the battery cable is disconnected - the fuse for the radio burns out If any of the above occurs, the word "SAFe" will appear after the radio is is switched on. The radio will work only if the correct code is entered again. Entering your personal code * Switch on radio * Push and hold the AM/FM BAND SELECTOR and then push and hold the SCAN BUTTON until the word "Code" is displayed. Release both buttons. After a pause, "1000" will be dispalyed. * After the "1000" display goes blank, use the radio station buttons to enter your personal code number. Enter the first position of the four-digit code number by pushing STATION BUTTON no. 1. For technical reasons, the first position must begin with the number 1, or left blank. Enter the second positon of the code number by pushing STATION BUTTION no. 2. Continue with STATION BUTTONS 3 and 4. Except for position 1, you can enter any number from 0 to 9. * Finally, push and hold the AM/FM SELECTOR and then push and hold the SCAN BUTTON until the word "SAFe" appears in the frequency display. Now the radio is ready for operation and the Anti-Theft coding is activated. Decoding the Radio The radio should be decoded when the vehicle is taken into the workshop and it has to be decoded if you sell your vehicle. * Switch on the coded radio. * Push and hold AM/FM BAND SELECTOR and then push and hold the SCAN BUTTON. Continue to hold the AM/FM BAND and SCAN BUTTONS until the display changes to 1000 and then goes blank. * After the display goes blank, release the AM/FM BAND SELECTOR and SCAN BUTTONS * Finally, push and hold the AM/FM BAND SELECTOR and then push and hold the SCAN BUTTON until the word "Code" is displayed. After releasing the buttons, the radio statin frequency is displayed. The code has now been erased and the radio is no longer theft protected. * If the word "SAFe" appears in the display and then the radio station frequency, a wrong code number was entered. Wrong Code Number if a wrong nmber was used, one again verify the correct code number (recored on the Radio-Card?). After the third attempt with the wrong code, the radio will not accept even the correct number. The radio can still be operated, however, should the power supply to the radio be out off, the radio will lock up electronically. When a wrong code is used during decoding, "SAFe" first blinks and then remains on. After the third attempt with a wrong code, "SAFe" remains on and the radio can no longer be operated. In both cases, you must contact your dealer. Canceling the electronic lock-up If for any reason the Anti-Theft coding locks up the radio, for example when the battery is disconected or the fuse for the radio blows, the word "SAFe" is displayed after switching on the radio. The electronic lock up can be canceled by entering the correct code number. * Push and hold AM/FM BAND SELECTOR and then push and hold the SCAN BUTTON. Continue to hold the AM/FM BAND and SCAN BUTTONS until the display changes to 1000 and then goes blank. * Use the STATION BUTTONS 1 through 4 to enter your personal code number. * Finally, push and hold the AM/FM SELECTOR and then push and hold the SCAN BUTTON until the word "SAFe" is displayed. After the buttons are released, the radio station frequency will be displayed and the radio will work again. * If the word "SFAe" is first blinking, and then stays on, a wrong code number was entered. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ aali From corrado-l-owner@teleport.com Mon Jul 3 15:12 PDT 1995 Received: from mailer by fshpp1 with SMTP (1.38.193.4/16.2) id AA01437; Mon, 3 Jul 1995 15:12:32 -0700 Return-Path: Received: from desiree.teleport.com by UG.EDS.COM (PMDF V4.3-10 #4) id <01HSFRVGQE2O008IDY@UG.EDS.COM>; Mon, 03 Jul 1995 15:10:30 -0700 (PDT) Received: (from daemon@localhost) by desiree.teleport.com (8.6.10/8.6.9) id PAA00627 for corrado-l-outgoing; Mon, 3 Jul 1995 15:05:38 -0700 Received: from mailhost.primenet.com (root@mailhost.primenet.com [198.68.32.50]) by desiree.teleport.com (8.6.10/8.6.9) with ESMTP id PAA00613 for ; Mon, 3 Jul 1995 15:05:33 -0700 Received: from ariff.lax.primenet.com (ariff.lax.primenet.com [198.68.36.148]) by mailhost.primenet.com (8.6.11/wjp-h2.0) with SMTP id PAA12496 for ; Mon, 3 Jul 1995 15:05:28 -0700 Date: Mon, 03 Jul 1995 15:05:28 -0700 From: ariff@PrimeNet.Com (Ariff Sidi) Subject: Re: * H * E * L * P * Sender: owner-corrado-l@teleport.com X-Sender: ariff@mailhost.primenet.com To: corrado-l@teleport.com Reply-To: corrado-l@teleport.com Message-Id: <199507032205.PAA12496@mailhost.primenet.com> X-Envelope-To: JAN@FSHPP1 Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Windows Eudora Version 2.0.3 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7BIT Precedence: bulk Status: RO >Kurt just called me from on the road. Cancelling the electronic lock-up If your radio has electronically locked up, for example if the battery was disconnected or if the fuse for the radio has blown, the word "SAFe" will appear in the frequency display after switching on the radio. To cancel the electronic lock-up, you must enter the CORRECT code number. It is important that you follow these steps in order. * Turn on radio - the word "SAFe" will be displayed. * First press the AM/FM button and then press the SCAN button and hold them down simultaneously until "1000" appears in the frequency display. Release the buttons. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, CONTINUE HOLDING THE BUTTONS DOWN OR PRESS THEM ONCE AGAIN. THIS WOULD CAUSE THE RADIO TO TAKE THE NUMBER "1000" AS THE CODE NUMBER. * Using the first four radio station buttons, enter the code number found on your Radio Card. Use button 1 to set the first digit of the four digit code, button 2 to set the second digit, etc. The first digit of a four-digit code must be "1". If your code number has THREE digits, the first digit on display must be set blank. * Once the code is shown on the display, press and hold the AM/FM button and SCAN button simultaneously until the word "SAFe" appears in the frequency display. Release the buttons. A radio station frequency will automatically be displayed. THE RADIO WILL NOW PLAY ONCE AGAIN. WRONG CODE NUMBER If, when cancelling the electronic lock-up, a wrong code number is entered by mistake, the word "SAFe" will appear in the frequency display first blinking, and then continuous. You can now repeat the entire cancelling procedure - but only once. The number of attempts will be shown in display. If the wrong code number should be entered again, your radio will be locked up for approximately one hour. The radio will not play. Leave the radio switched on. After an hour, you can cancel the electronic lock-up as previously described. This cycle - two attempts, one hour lock-up - continues again. NOTE If you should loose your Radio Card with the code number, see your Volkswagen dealer. Someone may want to add this to the FAQs. _________________________________________________________________ ariff@primenet.com carpe diem corrado-l
