I bought the GLX to go fast and driving fast with your lights on is a great way to stand out and get more tickets. So I dumped mine and will continue to turn them on when weather or traffic requires it. Date: 11/9/94 3:24:00 PM From: Gary Lyons Subject: Daytime Running Lights -- 1995 Golf III / Jetta lII Modifying Daytime Running Light System Group: 94 Number: DRAFT Golf III/Jetta III (U.S. ONLY) l995 M.Y. Date: Nov 04, l994 CONDITION We have received a number of complaints concerning the early introduction of daytime running lights during the l995 model year. Since federal law does not require the change to daytime running lights untill the 1996 model Year, we are offering retai1 purchasers of 1995 vehicles equipped with daytime running lights the one-time option of returning the lighting system to the standard switch-operated functions used previously. NOTE: This procedure has been developed solely as a courtesy for those, customers that have complained about this new feature, which we feel is an important safety commitment. It in no way implies a warrantable defect with the vehicle, and prior approval is required to perform this modification. Approval must be obtained from the OTS, VW Helpline, or customer relations. A Technical Bu11etin for this procedure WILL NOT be issued. SERVICE To return a 1995 model vehicle equipped with daytime running lights to the l994 model lighting configuration: - Replace the production headlight switch with part number 1HM 9451 531A. This same switch will be used for vehicles both with, or without fog lights. - Remove the left side underdash cover and remove the daytime running light relay from the relay adapter which is mounted at the very top of the fuse panel on the left side. The relay, part number 191 906 383B (production number 94), may be completely enclosed by a thick rubber cover. If so, simply pull off the cover and then pull out the relay. The adapter slot will be left vacant. - Submit the relay, cover, and headlight switch which were removed to our warranty test center. All parts returned must be properly tagged and in good condition to receive credit for the claim. Modify daytime running light system: 9405 51 0 - 15 T.U. (Includes Q.C. You want to have DRL on your US car or you want to remove partially the DRL on your CDN C? I have both procedures (thanks again to Scott). I assume you want to remove partially the DRL on your CDN C. Very easy (if I could do it, everyone can!) : Pop out your switch. Disconnect it from the brown box by pulling the switch box out. Now, pull the brown wire box out, about 4-5cm, that's the max you can do. You see at the bottom right, there's ONE YELLOW little wire? It's connected to hole #10. It's supposed to be alone, no wire above. Well, if it's the only yellow wire in the area, it's the one that gives power to the low beams while the switch is off and ignition is on. There is one of 2 ways to get rid of it : 1- Cut it. 2- Use a Schroth, uh a Scotch [;-)] tape on the metal tab on the black switch box, so it'll eleminate the connection between the switch box and wire. Use the 2nd option first, to be sure it's the right wire. Then, after, cut it. By experience, I can tell you that using a Scotch tape isn't good in certain circumstances. When you need to flash your high beams, sometimes it'll work, some others the high beams will stay on, and can go off without a reason later. So cut it after you're sure it's the right wire. Then, when you'll flash your high beams, everytime, the low beams will also flash and everything will turn off after. Your city lights will always stay on. Tell me if it worked. -- Corrado is the "Herrenvolk"! Or is it Porsche? "Die scho(ö)nste Verbindung zwischen zwei Punkten ist eine Kurve."
