Preface

In July 2006 I attended the COSPAR and WPGM meetings in Beijing. I won't attempt a deep cultural analysis of China here -- I'll leave that to the sports commentators of the 2008 Olympics -- but it was a great place to visit. There are many, many things to see, the people are friendly, and conditions in Beijing are modern, clean, and safe (and inexpensive).
