Bylaws

Article I
– Name
The name of this organization shall be THE SACRED HEART SCHOOL HOME
AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION (SHS HSA)
Article II
– Purpose
The purpose of THE SACRED HEART SCHOOL HOME SCHOOL ASSOCIATION is
to enhance and support the mission of Sacred Heart of Jesus School by:
1.
Continually
supporting and fostering communication among its members, and between the
organization and the faculty, staff, administration, and School Board of
Education of Sacred Heart School.
2.
Actively pursuing
time and talent among its membership for activities that strengthen the school
and promote a sense of community,
3.
Directing and
coordinating parental support to
Article III
– Membership
Membership shall consist of the parents/guardians of the students
of
Article IV
– Officers
Section 1.
The elected officers shall be president, vice-president, treasurer,
recording secretary, and publicity secretary.
Section 2.
All offices shall be elected at the May meeting by a majority vote of
the members present.
Section 3.
Normally the term of office will be one year for each of the offices.
No more than two consecutive terms in the same office can be held.
However, an officer (or officers) may serve an extended term beyond two
years if the position held is an office not previously elected to, in order to
maintain continuity in transition.
Article VI
– Duties of Officers
Section 1.
The President shall preside at the meetings of the Association and of
its Executive Committee, shall keep an active list of all members of the
Association committees and coordinate this information with the Executive
Committee and school office, shall appoint the chairperson of committees, and
shall perform such duties as are incumbent on this office.
Section 2.
The Vice-President, in the absence of the President, shall perform all
the duties of the President and such duties as are assigned to this office.
The Vice President shall pay special attention to maintaining and
increasing the association’s membership.
Section 3.
The Treasurer shall receive all monies of the Association, shall keep
an accurate account of same, shall pay bills of the Association, and shall
submit regular financial reports to the Executive Committee.
Section 4.
The Recording Secretary shall keep the minutes of all Association
meetings and meetings of the Executive Committee, and shall discharge all
other duties as incumbent upon this office.
Section 5.
The Publicity Secretary shall execute correspondence pertinent to the
Association.
Article V
– Executive Committee
Section 1.
The Executive Committee shall consist of the pastor, the principal, and
the officers of the home and school association.
Section 2.
A quorum of the Executive Committee shall be a majority of the members
of the Committee.
Section 3.
The Executive Committee meets when necessary.
Article VII
– Standing Committees and Special Committees
Section 1.
Such standing committees shall be created by the Executive Committee as
may be required to promote the objectives of the organization and will be
known to the general membership via signup sheets prior to the start of school
and at the first general meeting. The
chairpersons of the standing committees shall be selected or approved by the
Executive Committee. The members
of the standing committees shall be selected or approved by the chairpersons.
Section 2.
The chairpersons of all standing committees shall report to the
Executive Committee plans, updates, and summaries of all standing committee
actions. No committee work shall
be undertaken without the approval of the President.
Section 3.
The President may appoint such special committees as deemed advisable
to accomplish a specific purpose. Such
committees shall report at each general membership meeting.
A special committee automatically goes out of existence when its final
report is presented.
Article
VIII – General Membership Meetings
There shall be a minimum of three meetings each year.
The Executive Committee is responsible for planning and carrying out
these meetings.
Article IX
– Method of Amending the Bylaws
These Bylaws may be amended at a general membership meeting by a
two-thirds vote of the members present and entitled to vote, provided that
such amendments have been presented in writing to the organization at the
preceding general membership meeting.
Article X
– Parliamentary Procedure – Rule of Order
It is desirable in meeting to obtain the freest participation of
those attending. In the event,
however, that there is a question of parliamentary procedures, ROBERT’S
RULES OF ORDER shall apply.
