Quellar is Frostalf for "Noble House". The Mithkaldaka clan upon first hearing the Norse royal court attempt to pronounce their name unanimously and almost simultaneously decided to nordicise their name to "Greywolf" as the Colnbluthen say it. House Greywolf is an influential house in the Frostalf royal court boasting large contributions to the circles of learning and common good. As a result a great many of the smaller Houses have allied themselves with House Greywolf.

What's in a name?

It is understood that all members of Quellar Mithkaldaka are members of House Mithkaldaka (Greywolf). However that does not mean that all members must be part of Ka'lum Greywolf and bare the surname Greywolf. You may choose your own in-character family name to register as a member family of House Greywolf, or you may join one of the Noble Houses and request to take their surname. If you do choose to coin your own member family, there are some conventions to remember.

Choosing a surname

Your surname is the name of your Quellar Mithkaldaka member family. A surname can illustrate a number of qualities whether they be physical or factual. Your family name may be derived from forces of nature, totem animals or spirits, physical characteristics, noble deeds, or notable talents. A surname may be either a nordicised Frostalf name such as Greywolf, or a direct Frostalf name such as Zavril. The Drow dictionary can be used to choose a Frostalf name.

Registering a surname

Only members of C'rintri rank or higher may take a surname or found a family. To do so you should petition your proposed family name to the Baat'leb. Families have histories, so you will be asked to develop a storyline for your family and how they came to be part of Quellar Mithkaldaka. Your history may be as simple or elaborate as you wish, but it should be as imaginative as possible. Have fun with it! After your surname has been approved you may assume it.

Existing Families

Of course you may also wish to join an already existing family. To do this you must obtain the permission of that family. When this is done your name is added to that family's registry.

No Family

Finally, you may also wish to maintain no family relationship at all. You do not need to belong to a member family in order to be part of Quellar Mithkaldaka. The Greywolf family is famous for offering sanctuary to individuals who show promise but lack familial resources. They have even been known to render aid and sanctuary informally to Underside Kobolds and Dvergar.
