Special Activities
The New Hyde Park-Farview Lodge usually participates in several special activities per year, both those that are fun for us and our families and those that help the community. We have a Holiday Dinner (December) and a Valentines Dinner (Early Spring) for ourselves and our ladies. The Fall Family Picnic (September) is full of warmth and good times for knights and their families.
Our 2004 Holiday Dinner at Marvelous Muggs ( Moosic, PA) was particularly eventful. We were entertained by Kaitlyn Sledzinski, an eleven-year-old violinist, who plays with a prosthetic arm. Besides performing for the Knights of Pythias, Kaitlyn's aspiration has been to play in a concert with the Dream Kids organization at Disney World in March 2005. As a result of the Knights of Pythias dinner and a subsequent article published in the Scranton Times, Kaitlyn has been able to raise enought money for herself and her family to attend the event. The best of luck to Kaitlyn!

The 2003 Fall Family Picnic, held at Camp East Lake in New
Milford, PA, was up to Knights standards of comradship, although a bit soggy.
But it was MUCH less soggy than the 2004 picnic would have been, had it been
held. (Thanks Ivan!) Click on the camp road and follow it to our 2003 photo
gallery.
Every Holiday season, the Lodge presents needy families with
food baskets. Typically, two families are offered the baskets at Thanksgiving
and two during Christmastime.
Annually, Knights of Pythias
scholarships are awarded to seven deserving high school seniors from the local
area. The chosen students show not only good scholarship, but also reflect the
Pythian
Principles.
