I recently had the opportunity to meet up with Tony Gangi who has authored the absolutely wonderful book, Carny Sideshows. In the photo above he is doing the old sideshow bit called Blockhead. Although it is difficult to see without an Xray, a spike is shoved up his nose and into the nasal cavity. So what you are seeing is just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak.
