Humorous True Yiddish Dialogs and Stories

Dialog between my late mother Deydke, and her aunt Maryasha (Mary) Scolnik
Maryasha: Kalman geyt. (Kalman, my husband, is on the way.)

Deydke: Fun vanet veystu, Maryasha? (How do you know, Maryasha, that he's coming?)

Maryasha: Ikh her vi er khraket in "street" (gass)! (I hear him "hawking up an oyster" outside in the street!)

Dialog between my late grandmother, and a Gentile farmer who'd come to deliver potatoes
Farmer: Where should I put these vegetables, ma'am?

My grandmother (pointing to a bin in her cellar): Shit arayn. (Sheet Arain: Dump 'em there.)
[My poor bo-be didn't speak too much English.]

Farmer: Madam, you're awfully nasty ...

דער חזיר אין קאַק־שטיבּל - The Pig in the Outhouse (story told by my late father)
outhouse.gif
Once as a child, I was smacking my lips loudly while eating (Ikh hob shtark ge-SMAK-e-vet mit di lipn bam esn).

Observing this, my father told me that my behavior reminded him of a fat pig in an outhouse back in Europe.

My father said that back in his Eastern European shtetl, there was an outhouse behind his home.

They called it a kak-shtibl in Yiddish.

In the pile of manure that had accumulated in the "basement" of the kak-shtibl, there wallowed a fat pig with big whiskers.

Whenever someone up above would attend to their bodily needs, and drop a turd down into the "basement" of the kak-shtibl, the pig would voraciously gobble it up! Yum yum yum!

My father confided that as a child, he always looked forward to visiting the kak-shtibl. He said that he had developed a knack for defecating directly onto the pig's face.

When the feces landed on the pig's face, the pig would smakeve mit di lipn (smack his lips) as he gleefully consumed the feces.

My father said that whenever I smakeve mit di lipn while eating, I remind him of that pig back in the Old Country.
