Video Slideshows
...On YouTube
In 2006, I had my third great photographic revelation (the first was making my first color (darkroom) print, and the second was finding Photoshop). I had just bought a new computer, which came with Windows XP Media Edition. It also had a DVD burner and burning software. I loaded Photoshop Elements 3, and after a few hours of tinkering, I discovered that I could make a DVD slideshow that you could play on a TV!
My jaw dropped. In an instant, my slide projector (a staple in my life for so many years) was obsolete. I had no intention to do this when I bought the computer (if I did, I would have gotten a larger hard drive), but I knew right then and there that this would be my new hobby. Eventually I found YouTube for sharing them online.
Vacation 2009
50th Birthday Party (10:22)
Actually, it was a combo party - we both turned 50 this year.
Lapse of Time
(1:33)
Some of my favorite sequences from my last 3 vacations. My camera (Canon S3IS) is kind of limited for this, so this is the best I could do. (Music: Ode to Ludwig, Don Dorsey).
Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary Mom & Dad
05:45
50 Golden years, 1957 - 2007, condensed version.
When the pictures were in an album, we rarely looked at them. But now that they're on a DVD, we watch them all the time.
Music*:
- HAPPY TOGETHER, The Turtles
- LONG AGO AND FAR AWAY, Rod Stewart
- FOREVER AND FOR ALWAYS, Shania Twain

*Note: The soundtrack was removed by YouTube for "copyright infringement". I disagree with the rules (and will have a web page about it someday), but I won't win this fight. In short, I buy CDs for background music for my slideshows, dating back to the slide projector days. This is my hobby - I don't make a dime on it. I don't think my hobby harms the artist or the music industry in any way (if anything, I think my slideshows might even encourage someone to want to do the same, in which case they would have to go out and buy the music). I think I should be able to play the music I buy in a public place (or if not, someone please explain to me why wearing a T-shirt with a copyrighted logo is any different than playing a radio in public).
Jim's 2007 Vacation
I was so pleased with my 2006 slideshow, I upgraded my digital camera to a Canon S3 IS - a much better camera, which includes a 12x optical zoom and Image Stabilization.

Jim's 2006 Vacation
This is my first video slideshow, and I'm ecstatic with the results. ...And I'm still learning. As soon as I figured out that I could make DVDs, I mothballed my slide projector.
Over 90% of these pictures were shot with a Nikon CoolPix 7600 (including the video clips), and the rest are scans of 35mm slides. I used Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 & Premiere Elements 2.0 to put everything together. Soundtrack: Narada Collection, Vol. 1.
The entire show is over 15 minutes long, so broke it up into 4 parts:
Part 1: Las Vegas - Joshua Tree (04:13)
Las Vegas, Mojave Scenic Area, Joshua Tree National Park.

Part 2: San Diego - Sequoia (02:54)

Part 3: Yosemite (05:40)
Yosemite National Park, Hiking Half Dome.

Part 4: Utah to Las Vegas (03:02)
Snow Canyon State Park, Las Vegas, Bellagio Fountains.

Camera Club Commercial
How to Make a Digital Slideshow on DVD (1:00)
I think making a DVD "commercial" for your camera club slideshow is a great idea in itself. That way you can send them around to other clubs as publicity (or simply post it online). Unfortunately, I didn't rejoin the club and never gave my show.
I hope my video slideshows inspires others as I have been inspired by others. Enjoy!
