The Intorcio FamilyThe Intorcio family began as the Intorcia family. The spelling of the family name was apparently changed during the immigration process when John's grandfather, Giuseppe, came to the US from Italy in about 1903 with his brother, Vincenzo. John's grandmother, Reperata DeIanni, was known as Roberta. She came to New York within a year after Giuseppe and they were married there. They settled outside Cleveland, Ohio where Giuseppe worked as a plasterer creating ornate moldings for walls and ceilings and such. John's father, Ralph, was the youngest of their six children. Giuseppe's father, Domenico, lived on a farm in or just outside Benevento. The story told in the above crest is that of the two (or maybe three) Intorcia brothers who came to Italy from Nuremberg in the middle 1700's.
We know that there's an Intorcia Winery in Italy to this day - we even scored a case of their wine!! - but we can't prove any connection to this family other than a penchant for the fruit of the vine in many of our relatives! The Duff FamilyShawn's father's family has been in the US for many years, apparently since Robert Duff sailed from Ireland with his father. The modern Duffs of our family are the sons of Orville Raymond Duff of Middleton, Ohio. Proffits (with various numbers of t's and f's), Spencers, and Shoupes abound on these lines. The McCoy FamilyThe earliest McCoy ancestor that was known to the modern Mcoys was Marshall Milton McCoy. It was his son, Marshall Bonaparte McCoy, who married Mary Phillips and raised the five matriarchs of the McCoy family that we think of as The McCoys. Ouida, John's mom, was the second oldest of the girls and the first to pass on. Also prevalent on this branch are the McKelvaines and the Naylors - the surname of many contemporary cousins and data sources. We'find several sources that point to Elijah Samuel McCoy as Marshall M. M.'s father. In fact, we belive we can trace this line all the way back to Elijah McCoy, b. 1731. The Salvage FamilyThe Salvages descend from Willam James. One of the shorter branches on our tree, they were mostly more recent immigrants. There's rumors that a cousin hs more info - we're eager to see it! There are ties on the Johnston side back William, born around 1800 in Ireland. |
