Geocaching is an outdoor activity we've taken up as a family. It involves hiking, map reading, orienteering, bushwhacking, online research and fun! Roughly speaking, we hike around in the woods with a map and a GPS receiver looking for stuff that other people have hidden or hiding stuff for other people to find! The place to learn the basics of geocaching and to check for caches that might be near you is Geocaching.com.

Caches We've Stashed

Mt. Sunapee

On July 18, 2001, with the help of a visiting cousin, Sarah, we stashed the Mt. Sunapee geocache on the side of one of our favorite New Hampshire ski areas. Here's Jacob securing the cache in its hiding spot:

Fawn Lake

On May 8, 2001, John stashed the Fawn Lake cache at a favorite destination for his lunchtime jogs from work. The spot may be buggy, but it's a nice, close, easy cache for the geocaching beginner!

Salem Pond

We stashed our first cache on April 14, 2001 at Salem Pond in the Harold Parker State Forest. A favorite hiking spot of ours, we hope others enjoy this beautiful pond as much as we do!

Caches We've Visited

On November 12, 2001, Joshua, Jacob, John and Rosie found the Bessie's Point cache on their second try (the first being thwarted by a battery failure). Nice spot just a few miles from home!

On August 18, 2001, Joshua, Jacob, and John found the Harold Parker State Forest cache after swapping in a new camera at our nereby Salem Pond cache. This was a recod fast find for us!

On May 12, 2001, Jacob, Joshua and John found the Fells Folly cache on their way to Gregory's birthday party! We climbed the tower on the way out, enjoying the fresh breeze!
On May 8, 2001, John did a lunch hour excursion to Carlise's carnberry bogs and the Cranberry Camera Cache. Attacked by moquitos, he retreated to the bogs before having a picnic!
On May 6, 2001, we took Grampa along for a the hunt for the Wookie Hollow cache. We had a nice cool spring hike to this great site! What a fun place!
On April 28, 2001, Jacob found the Rolling Hills cache with just a bit of help from dad. We had fun hauling trash out of the woods to help clean it up a bit! The next day, the whole family, even the dog, had a nice hike to the Lynn Woods cache.

On April 22, 2001, we did the Breakheart Reservation double-bagger! We started with the X700 cache and then, after a nice picnic by the pond, moved on to Eric's Adventure. Joshua found the first and Jacob the second. It was a great day!

On April 14, 2001, Joshua and Jacob, with just a bit of coaching from Dad, found the Blizz2000 geocache right in our hometown! It was a nice sunny day for a walk in the woods! The boys can't wait for the next "treasure hunt"!
John visited Lowell on a lunch hour on April 13, 2001! It was Friday the 13th - right around 13:00. He took picture #13 with the camera there. Spooky or what?
