Fugakukai Jodo

The Fugakukai chose Jodo as the best weapons system to complement Aikido. Jodo teaches adaptability, fearlessness, and how to transmit power through an object. In practice, a stick is used to defend against attack with a wooden sword. Our group follows the teachings of Miyake Tsunako sensei and Karl Geis sensei, who have passed to us their arts and budo heart.

We practice the system of 12 kata and 12 kihon that were selected from Shindo Muso Ryu for the Kendo Renmei. Our version of Seitei Jodo has a different purpose, and is slightly different from the other evolving versions of Seitei Jodo. All the principles are contained in the kihon, and the kata expound the applications of these fundamentals. In order to deeply study the implications of the Seitei kata, it is incumbent on us to explore variations and rationale of the standard forms.

Shindo Muso Ryu

For those interested in the traditional 64 katas and other weapons of Shindo Muso Ryu, our friends in the Nihon Jodokai have shared instruction in the classical curriculum. We honor our debt to them by striving to practice what we have been given. Our deepest appreciation is due to Kaminoda Tsunemori sensei, Shindo Muso Ryu menkyo kaiden, for his generosity, openness and untiring devotion.
