Some families know a great deal about their roots; others know very little. This site is an attempt to record
what I've learned about the Perine family history of north central West Virginia; mainly Harrison, Doddridge, Lewis,
Ritchie, Wood, Pleasants, Marion, Taylor, Monongalia, Tyler, and surrounding counties. In these modern times, families tend
to be scattered all over the country, if not the world. One of the goals of this web site is to help our family stay connected
even though we live far apart.
Most of the information on these pages was obtained from talking to living relatives and from researching
public records. I don't know of any courthouse, library, cemetery, newspaper publisher, or historical society in West Virginia
that I have not visited at least once in my travels. The Perine name is somewhat a rare name, not being a common name such
as Smith, Jones, Wilson, Johnson, etc..., and I never knew of very many relatives sharing the Perine name. In the course of
doing this research, I've discovered that I have many more relatives than I ever thought possible!
If I may add one
important note: this is an ongoing work. This is a work in progress, so please contact me if you have any information that
might help round out the picture. Just when I think I have all the information that I can gather, I find a little more. It
is very hard to find an ending point; but I guess that is the point of a family. Even if I find every name in the past that
I can, life (and death) goes on, so a family tree can never really be finalized.
