Scooby-Doo in Psychic Psyche Out

Please note that this is the first draft of the script.  Many changes were made during the revision stage, including punching up dialog and altering the ending.

I have supplied some links in the course of the script.  Three are to reference photos I supplied to John Delaney.  The first page of the story (as colored by me) is also available online for you to review. It is in the 120 KB range, so it does take a while to download, but it will give you a chance to see how Mr. Delaney integrated some of the reference material.

However, as a matter of mechanics, we're going to look at the springboard and page breakdown (typos inclusive) before we get to the actual script. When working on licensed properties at DC Comics (comics based on properties not owned directly by DC), there are additional levels to the approval process. You start with the springboard. In this case, the story started out as something completely different...

PSYCHIC AFFAIR SPRINGBOARD

This is another story that COULD run a full issue, depending on the number of characters that could be involved. On the other hand, if we keep it simple, without the numerous red herrings I generally like to include, it could also be done in 12 or 14 pages.

The gang visits a Psychic Fair where believers of the supernatural and curiosity seekers get together to discuss otherworldly matters. Shaggy and Scooby are disappointed and creeped out. They were expecting a traditional county fair with rides and food--lots of food--but this is a spooky event being held on a fog-enshrouded island at an old castle.

Velma has her palm read and she is warned about impending danger. The fortune teller sees Velma being menaced by a terrible evil. The gang has mixed feelings about this--they have solved enough mysteries to not believe in ghosts and monsters, having debunked many a "supernatural" mystery, but they also know that wherever they go, trouble follows. They have a certain amount of celebrity here as sleuths. Also present are SBI (Supernatural Bureau of Investigation) agents Skully and Muldare--individuals who routinely debunk charlatans.

During the fair, a monster appears and frightens away many of the attendees. Some of the psychics, the gang, and the agents stay behind to investigate. The psychics want to hold a séance to see if the spirits who inhabit the castle will help them uncover the monster and its reasons for being there. A ghostly voice tells them that someone present is trying to fool them. Skully and Muldare disbelieve the whole thing. There's no such thing as monsters and ghosts!

The Monster shows up again, wreaking havoc. The gang splits up to try to follow the monster. Velma disappears in a secret passage way, and just as the monster is about capture her, a mysterious force helps her escape. She rejoins the gang, who set out to find the monster once and for all. They are given help in tracking down the monster by the unseen force. Ultimately, the monster is unmasked as being a trick of Skully and Muldare, who are revealed to be impostors who have made it their mission to convince the world there are no such things as monsters.

Skully and Muldare are taken away, but the question remains--who was the mysterious force who helped our heroes? Is it possible there really are ghosts?

Editor Dana Kurtin made several suggestions and requests, including deleting the Skully and Muldare characters. She submitted the revised springboard to Cartoon Network. They approved it and Dana commissioned the story for 10 pages. The next step was to write a page breakdown (PBD) so Dana could review the pacing of the story.

PSYCHIC AFFAIR PBD

PAGE ONE--The gang accompanies Shaggy's Aunt Cecelia to an old Southern Mansion in Louisiana, not far from New Orleans, purportedly the site of Voodoo rituals--but once the home of Frederick Palmerston who lost his property to Gen. Benjamin Butler during the Federalist occupation of the city during the Civil War. They have driven all day to the house in the Mystery Machine, so it is nearly sundown when they arrive. They are there to attend a psychic fair so that Aunt Cecelia can learn what happened to the "treasure" she lost when she worked in the house as a cook. The kids try to convince her that the fair is probably a scam, but she's distraught over the loss of her treasure and will do anything to find it.

PAGE TWO--Splash to establish the psychic fair. Two additional panels to indicate the kids are recognized by the organizers of the fair. One of them is Neland Smythe, and he assures the gang that everything at the fair is on the up and up.

PAGE THREE--As Velma, Daphne, and Fred explore the fair itself, Aunt Cecelia--accompanied by Shaggy and Scooby--visit a fortune teller. Shaggy and Scooby are far more interested in food than what the fortune teller has to say. The psychic--overheard by the fair organizers--tells Cecelia that the truth is locked somewhere in her own mind and that time will reveal the location of the treasure. As they leave, Scooby and Shaggy making a bee line for the food concession, the psychic offers a warning: the two of them are in grave danger!

PAGE FOUR--Shaggy and Scooby ingest vast quantities of food from the concessionaire as Cecelia wracks her brain, trying to recall anything that will lead her to the treasure. Daphne, Fred, and Velma return just as Cecelia recalls the old smokehouse behind the mansion.

PAGE FIVE--It is now night, and the kids with Cecelia cross the grounds to the smokehouse. There is a full moon and lots of Spanish Moss hanging from the trees--the kind of stuff that puts Shaggy and Scooby on edge, especially when they recall the fortune teller's warning.

PAGE SIX--They get to the smokehouse and open it up. Cecelia looks under the floorboard to discover and old wooden box, small enough to be a jewelry box! She has found her treasure! However, just as they are all about to leave, they are confronted by the ghost of Frederick Palmerston who has been awakened by all the psychic goings-on. He claims ownership of the treasure and wants to chase the "goldurn Yankees" off his property.

PAGES SEVEN and EIGHT--The chase scene. The gang runs away from the ghost, playing a game of "keep away" from the ghost, tossing the box from person to person. However, the last of the gang to have possession of the box are Shaggy and Scooby, who become sick to their stomachs and lose possession of the box to the ghost after a brief scuffle.

PAGE NINE--As Daphne, Fred, and Cecelia look after Shaggy and Scooby, Fred finds the clue that will lead them back to the ghost: a button from the jacket that Neland Smythe was wearing. The gang find Neland trying to open the box and expose him as the "ghost."

PAGE TEN--Neland wanted the treasure for himself and to discredit the MM gang in order to make more money off the gullible fools who have been attending his psychic fairs. Fred opens the box to discover Cecelia's treasure: old recipes she'd collected. Shaggy and Scooby would be impressed for this, except they are still sick to their stomachs. The fortune teller from earlier reminds them that she warned them--anyone who eats the concessionaire's food gets sick--it doesn't take a psychic to know that!

Well, it turned out that there was already a story set in the south dealing with Civil War intrigue, so Dana had me change that element. The story was then transported to Bath, England. I had just returned from a trip to England, so Bath was fresh in my mind. In addition to that, I had taken scads of photos that the artist could use for reference. (And I could write the trip off my taxes!) And now, here is what the script looked like when it was first submitted...

PSYCHIC PSYCHE OUT SCRIPT

Psychic Psyche Out page onePAGE ONE
PANEL ONE

Establishing shot.  The street in front of the church in Bath prior to reaching the town square.  (See photos #1, 2, & 3 for reference.  Each show the same basic area, albeit from different angles.)  DAPHNE, FRED, VELMA, SHAGGY, SCOOBY, and CECELIA are crossing the street.  Cecelia is a woman in her seventies, a kindly old Aunt sort who grew up in Bath.  She is rather short and rotund, with gray hair pulled up in a bun at the back of her head. Her face is round and pleasant, with deep jowls that overwhelm her small, dimpled chin.  She is wearing a floral print dress and has a slight hunch to her shoulders.
DAPHNE:  It was really generous to bring us to England with you, Cecelia.
CECELIA:  Nonsense, Daphne.  I've known Shaggy since he was a boy.
SHAGGY:  Speaking of me, like, when do we eat?
SCOOBY:  Reah!

PANEL TWO
DAPHNE, FRED, VELMA, SHAGGY, SCOOBY, and CECELIA walk along the side of a huge old church heading toward the town square.
SHAGGY:  I'm starving!
CECELIA:  Not so fast, my lad!
CECELIA:  Your mother told me you'd protect me from cheats and charlatans.

PANEL THREE
Establishing shot of the town square (see photo #3) with at least SHAGGY, SCOOBY, and CECELIA in the foreground as we look over their shoulders.  If you can work DAPHNE, FRED, and VELMA into the shot, that's great.  If not, that's okay too. It is bustling with people attending a Psychic Fair.  There are all kinds of booths featuring fortune tellers, mystics, storytellers, demonstrations, etc.  However, the key thing to remember is that these are all fakes, set up to bilk the unsuspecting of their money--so everything has the feel of kitsch, flash, and sparkle to it.  This is the largest panel on the page.  Leave room for title and credits.
CECELIA:  As if I couldn't tell the difference between real psychics and fakes!
SCOOBY:  Ruh-oh!
TITLE:  PSYCHIC PSYCHE OUT
CREDITS:  Joe Edkin, writer.  etc.

PAGE TWO
PANEL ONE

FRED and CECELIA walk past a PHRENOLOGIST who is "reading the bumps" on a MAN's head under a tent.
PHRENOLOGIST (keep this lettering small as it is a throw away gag): ...You have a lot on your mind...
FRED:  Phrenology? That's the practice of reading the bumps on your head to determine your character. You don't believe in all of this, do you, Cecelia?
CECELIA:  I know there is magic at work here in Bath, Fred.

PANEL TWO
FRED, VELMA, DAPHNE, SHAGGY, and SCOOBY react in surprise to CECELIA's statement.
VELMA:  Magic?
CECELIA:  Yes, Velma.  When I worked here as a young woman, Bath had its very own ghost.

PANEL THREE
SHAGGY and SCOOBY are frightened by the notion of ghosts, hugging each other and glancing fretfully in all directions.  CECELIA is unfazed by the notion.  WANDA, the show's organizer, approaches.  Wanda is everything you'd expect from a fraudulent fortune teller--dressed in a turban, flowing robes, and wearing a large sparkling necklace of the costume variety.  (The necklace is an important clue, so make sure we get some good looks at it along the way.)  Let's not give her an" evil" face as we don't want to telegraph that she is our villain. She's an expert con artist, so she should come across as "honest." Wanda must be close enough to overhear what is being said.
SHAGGY:  GHOSTS?
SCOOBY:  Rhosts?
CECELIA:  No, dears, not ghosts.  Ghost.  Don't worry--there was only one.
SHAGGY:  Like that's supposed to make us feel better?

PANEL FOUR
WANDA approaches CECELIA and THE GANG.
CECELIA:  Maybe it can help me find my lost treasure.  I lost it here years ago.
WANDA:  Your friend is right.  Bath is full of magic.
WANDA:  My name is Wanda the Wise.
WANDA:  If your friend's  treasure is here, the spirits shall help us find it!

PANEL FIVE
FRED tries to shield CECELIA from WANDA.
FRED:  Be careful, Cecelia.  People like her are con artists.
WANDA:  I know all about you young Americans and how you debunk the supernatural, but I assure you my psychic fair is on the level!
WANDA (joined):  To prove it, I'll give your friend here a free psychic reading.

PAGE THREE
NOTE TO ARTIST--I see panels one through three as the top third of the page.

PANEL ONE
WANDA begins to usher CECELIA towards Wanda's tent.  DAPHNE and the GANG follow, SHAGGY and SCOOBY more interested in the food concession by the tent than in what's being said.
DAPHNE:  Don't trust her, Cecelia.
CECELIA:  It's worth a try, dears.
WANDA:  If she wants to find her treasure, I can help her--if she believes in me.

PANEL TWO
FRED puts his hand on SHAGGY's shoulder to get his and SCOOBY's attention. SHAGGY and SCOOBY are disappointed--they are focused on getting food at this point.
FRED:  Shaggy, Scooby--you two go with Cecelia.
SHAGGY:  But we were going to get something to eat!
SCOOBY:  Reah!

PANEL THREE
FRED leans in close to SHAGGY to whisper in his ear, glancing over his shoulder at CECELIA who is obviously falling for WANDA's line.
FRED (Whispering):  You don't want a fake taking advantage of your friend, do you?
SHAGGY (W):  Like--no!
FRED (W):  Then you go with her while Daphne, Velma, and I check out the rest of the fair.

PANEL FOUR
NOTE TO ARTIST--I see panel four as the middle third of the page.
Page wide long shot.  FRED, VELMA, and DAPHNE stand outside Wanda's tent as SHAGGY and SCOOBY follow CECELIA and WANDA inside.  Fill out the panel with all manner of FRAUDULENT PSYCHICS, some using ghostometers, some speaking in tongues, anything showy and obviously fake.  The FAIRGOERS are all caught up in it however.
FRED:  I don't like the look of things here.
VELMA:  I'll bet this whole psychic fair is a scam! We've got to prove it to Cecelia, so she doesn't lose her treasure.

NOTE TO ARTIST--I see panels five and six as the bottom third of the page.

PANEL FIVE
FRED, DAPHNE, and VELMA stop in front of a booth where an EXOTIC WOMAN looks into a glowing crystal ball that is on top of her table, a HOPEFUL MAN looking on.  The table of covered with a cloth with a stars and moons design.  Velma points underneath the table, showing Daphne and Fred that there is a high-powered lamp feeding light into the Exotic Woman's crystal ball.
EXOTIC WOMAN:  Your future is very bright...
VELMA (W):  Not as bright as her sun lamp!

PANEL SIX
FRED, DAPHNE, and VELMA stop in front of a tent were a seance is taking place.  There is a GROUP OF PEOPLE gathered around the table holding hands.  They are all looking up at a floating candle in awe. The group is being led by a SWAMI.  Daphne points out the wire holding the candle to Fred and Velma.
SWAMI:  Gerard's spirit is with us!  He is holding the candle!
DAPHNE (W):  And he's using a piano wire to do it!
FRED:  I've seen enough!  We've got to convince Cecelia not to believe anything that woman tells her!

PAGE FOUR
PANEL ONE
Cut to Wanda's tent.  WANDA has laid out tarot cards on the table in front of CECELIA.  SHAGGY and SCOOBY are by the tent flaps looking wistfully out at the food stand nearby.
WANDA:  The cards never lie.  The key to finding your treasure is in your own mind.
WANDA:  To find it, visit the places that were important to you when you lived in Bath.

PANEL TWO
WANDA leans closer to CECELIA, offering her comfort and hope. Her words frighten SHAGGY and SCOOBY
WANDA:  The ghost of Bath will guide you!
SCOOBY:  Rhost of Rath?!
SHAGGY:  You don't want to find your treasure that much do you, Cecelia?

PANEL THREE
FRED, VELMA, and DAPHNE walk into the tent to escort CECELIA away from WANDA.
FRED:  Don't worry about it, guys.  There's nothing supernatural here.
VELMA:  The whole fair is a fraud.
WANDA:  You'll regret saying that!  The ghost of Bath will teach you a lesson!

PANEL FOUR
DAPHNE takes CECELIA by the hand as the GANG walks away from the town square, leaving the psychic fair behind them.
DAPHNE:  We're sorry if you're disappointed, Cecelia.
CECELIA:  Not at all.  That fortune teller gave me very good advice.  I have to visit the places I went when I lived here.

PANEL FIVE
The GANG comes to a stop in front of the Susie Lynn House (see photo #6 for reference).  The window display is filled with all manner of baked goods.  SHAGGY and SCOOBY are salivating at the sight of the food.  There is a DISTINGUISHED GENTLEMAN walking out of the restaurant who notices Shaggy and Scooby.  The gentleman will show up again at the end of the story.
CECELIA:  I worked here as a young woman.
SHAGGY:  Like, isn't it time to take a lunch break?
GENTLEMAN:  If you go in there, you will face great danger!

PAGE FIVE
PANEL ONE
The GANG is seated at a table inside the restaurant.  It is inside a house circa 1680, so the rooms are small and narrow.  There are WAITRESSES dressed in garb of the era, dull gray dresses with white aprons, cloth bonnets on their heads.  This is an important element, so make sure to work in at least one waitress.
CECELIA:  This restaurant is named after Susie Lynn who was a baker here in 1680.  Her recipes were so famous that she is remembered to this day.
SHAGGY:  It doesn't look dangerous to me.

PANEL TWO
SHAGGY and SCOOBY are delighted by the vast amount of food that has been laid on the table before them by the WAITRESS.  VELMA realizes where this is headed.
VELMA:  Don't speak too soon!
WAITRESS:  Steak and kidney pie, cottage pie, scones with clotted cream, ploughman's lunch, Cornish pastie, watercress sandwiches, and jellied eels.

PANEL THREE
All the plates on the table are clean now, with it being obvious that SHAGGY and SCOOBY have consumed the majority of the food.  They are leaning back patting their stomachs, looking satisfied.  Beyond the GANG is a SHADOWED FIGURE (Wanda) listening in on the conversation.
SCOOBY:  Reeeee-licious!
SHAGGY:  I couldn't eat another bite!
DAPHNE:  Have you remembered anything, Cecelia?
CECELIA:  Susie Lynn's original kitchen is still in the basement. That's where the ghost lives...

PANEL FOUR
Cut to the exterior of Susie Lynn's to establish that several hours passed during the meal.  It is now night time, with a bright moon in the sky.
CECELIA (from inside):  ...maybe the ghost can help me remember where I left my treasure.

PANEL FIVE
VELMA, FRED, and DAPHNE get up to follow CECELIA to the basement. SHAGGY and SCOOBY remain at the table, frightened at the prospect of having to face the ghost.
SHAGGY:  Shouldn't someone stay up here and keep guard?

PANEL SIX
VELMA holds up the bag of Scooby snacks to tempt SHAGGY and SCOOBY. Beyond her, the SHADOWY FIGURE is moving toward the door to the basement.
VELMA:  We've got Scooby snacks for dessert!
SHAGGY:  There's always room for Scooby snacks!

PAGE SIX
PANEL ONE
The GANG walk down the basement stairs, SHAGGY and SCOOBY munching on Scooby snacks.
SHAGGY:  I can't believe that there's a kitchen down here!
CECELIA:  It's gift shop now...

PANEL TWO
The GANG is now in the basement of the building.  The basement is cramped in terms of the open space available for visitors.  The open area has been set up as a gift shop.  However, beyond the gift shop to the left and right are openings like windows (no glass) that allow visitors to view the original Susie Lynn kitchen.  These have earthen walls (remember--no concrete foundations in the 1600s when the house was built).  We'll be focusing only one side--the side that had the oven and the work area--so you don't have to worry about the opposite side. In the kitchen area itself, there is a large stone oven, a long work table, supplies, a large bellows that fed the fire for the oven, and a flagstone floor.  The bellows is important to the plot, so make sure it can be seen.
CECELIA:  ...but this is where Susie Lynn baked her world famous breads.

PANEL THREE
CECELIA points at one of the flagstones as SHAGGY, FRED, and SCOOBY look on.
CECELIA:  Now I remember--this is where I hid my treasure! Under that flagstone.
CECELIA (joined):  Would you boys get it for me?

PANEL FOUR
SHAGGY and FRED are now in the kitchen area, kneeling on the floor where they've lifted the flagstone.  SHAGGY is holding a small old dusty wooden box--maybe the size of a shoe box, but no larger.  Shaggy should look surprised and impressed.  SCOOBY is behind him, but his focus is beyond the box and the boys.  He looks nervous.
SHAGGY:  Well, I'll be!  It is here!
SCOOBY:  ruh-roh!

PANEL FIVE
Over SCOOBY's shoulder in the direction of the old oven (and the bellows). We can now see what he's looking at--a cloud of "smoke."  Within the cloud of smoke, we can see the outline of the "ghost" of SUSIE LYNN. The ghost's eyes appear to be glowing.  A word about the cloud of smoke--it's not really smoke (as will be revealed at the climax). It's a cloud of flour that was created by Wanda (our villainess) using flour and the bellows by the oven.
SUSIE:  I am Susie Lynn--the ghost of Bath and that treasure is mine!
SCOOBY:  Rikes!

PAGE SEVEN
PANEL ONE
SUSIE LYNN steps from the cloud of "smoke."  She is dressed like the waitresses from the restaurant, but she is completely white (she has covered herself with flour to give herself a ghostly appearance). Around Susie's neck is a white necklace the same size and shape as Wanda's. (It's a clue!)  SHAGGY and SCOOBY react in fright as FRED grabs the box from Shaggy.
SUSIE:  Return the treasure to me and I shall spare your lives!
FRED:  Let's get out of here, guys!

PANEL TWO
Frightened, the GANG, led by SHAGGY and SCOOBY, begin to run up the stairs.  DAPHNE tries to convince CECELIA to move along, but Cecelia is not at all scared by the "ghost.".  FRED still has the box.
DAPHNE:  Hurry, Cecelia!
CECELIA:  I'm not worried about her!
FRED:  She wants your treasure!

PANEL THREE
The GANG pour out of the restaurant onto the street and have paused long enough to try to figure out which way to go.  SHAGGY and SCOOBY should look winded--they've eaten way too much.  SUSIE LYNN is standing in the doorway of the restaurant, trying to look as frightening as possible. Remember, it is night now, so the streets are pretty much deserted.
SHAGGY and SCOOBY:  *puff*  *puff*
VELMA:  Which way now?
SUSIE:  You'll never escape from me!  Return the treasure!

PANEL FOUR
SHAGGY and SCOOBY reaction shot--they're both scared, naturally.
SHAGGY:  Like, it doesn't matter!  JUST RUN!
SCOOBY:  Reah--run!

PANEL FIVE
The GANG begin to scatter in all directions, DAPHNE taking CECELIA protectively with her.  Again, Cecelia should look more confused or annoyed than scared.  FRED still has the box.  SUSIE is giving chase to Fred.
DAPHNE:  Stay near me, Cecelia!
CECELIA:  Oh, this is so silly!
SUSIE:  That treasure belongs to me!

PAGE EIGHT
PANEL ONE
SUSIE reaches out to grab FRED as he throws the box like a football to VELMA.  Make the action on this page look like a game of American football.
SUSIE (Burst):  GIVE IT BACK!
FRED:  Velma!  Catch!

PANEL TWO
VELMA catches the box while on the run, heading towards the town square. SUSIE watches this with anger.
VELMA:  Got it!

PANEL THREE
VELMA hands the box off to DAPHNE (who is still with CECELIA, who hikes her long proper skirt up to run, revealing bloomers and "granny" boots) just as SUSIE makes a grab for her and misses.
DAPHNE:  We won't lose your treasure again, Cecelia!

PANEL FOUR
In the foreground, SHAGGY and SCOOBY have stopped to catch their breath. DAPHNE and CECELIA are running towards them with SUSIE after them.
SHAGGY:  *huff* I can't run another step!  I ate too much!
SCOOBY:  Re roo!

PANEL FIVE
DAPHNE punts the box in the direction of SHAGGY and SCOOBY as she and CECELIA split up, avoiding SUSIE.
DAPHNE:  Shaggy!  Scooby!  It's up to you!
SHAGGY:  It's all up to the kid from Coolsville.

PAGE NINE
PANEL ONE
SHAGGY and SCOOBY fumble with the box, trying to catch it as SUSIE approaches.
SHAGGY (B):  YIKES!

PANEL TWO
SHAGGY and SCOOBY run directly into SUSIE, causing her necklace to snap and fall from her neck.
SFX:  KA-WHUMP!

PANEL THREE
SUSIE runs away with the box, the necklace dropping to the ground. SHAGGY and SCOOBY are having trouble getting up.
SUSIE:  ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

PANEL FOUR
DAPHNE, FRED, and CECELIA stop to make sure that SHAGGY and SCOOBY are all right.  Shaggy and Scooby are rubbing their bruises. They are both smudges with white flour from the collision.  VELMA is kneeling, looking at the necklace.
DAPHNE:  Are you okay, guys?
SCOOBY:  Rust ruised.
SHAGGY:  Yeah.  Susie is like pretty solid for a ghost.
SHAGGY:  Plus she has really gnarly dandruff!

PANEL FIVE
VELMA holds up the necklace for the GANG to see.  There are white footprints leading away from the scene (caused by the flour Wanda used to disguise herself).
VELMA:  Susie Lynn was no ghost!
VELMA:  And this necklace will lead us right to the impostor!

PAGE TEN
PANEL ONE
Cut to inside Wanda's tent.  WANDA, most of her white flour wiped off her face and costume, is at her table trying to open the box as VELMA and the GANG stand at the tent flaps looking in.
VELMA:  There's your "ghost," guys!  Wanda the Wise!
WANDA:  How did you know?

PANEL TWO
FRED hands the box back to CECELIA, much to WANDA's annoyance. She demands to know how Velma figured everything out, and VELMA happily obliges her with the explanation as she holds up the flour-covered necklace. She has wiped some of the flour away so we can see that it is the same necklace Wanda had been wearing earlier.
VELMA:  Simple.  I found the necklace I saw you wearing earlier. It's covered with baking flour, the same kind I smelled at the kitchen when you appeared in a cloud of "smoke."
CECELIA:  Besides--the ghost of Bath is not Susie Lynn, but her old cat Sniffles!

PANEL THREE
WANDA crosses her arms, angry at having been found out, as FRED and VELMA lead her from the table.
WANDA:  *harrumph!*  The fair is nearly broke--I figured if I could fool you kids, the publicity would help business and the money from the treasure would pay off my debts!

PANEL FOUR
CECELIA opens the box for the GANG to see.  It is full of papers, but nothing that looks monetarily valuable.
CECELIA:  But my treasure is only valuable to me. They're my mother's old recipes!

PANEL FIVE
The GANG walk out of the tent.  SHAGGY, SCOOBY, and CECELIA lead the way.  Behind them, FRED, VELMA, and DAPHNE escort the defeated WANDA.
SHAGGY:  That's treasure enough for me!  Let's eat!
CECELIA:  I thought you were full!
SHAGGY:  That was ten minutes ago.  I'm fine now!

And here is what page ten turned out to be.  The gang has just learned about that the ghost of Bath was Sniffles the cat...

PAGE TEN
PANEL ONE
CECELIA holds up Wanda's flour-dusted Susie costume as the GANG and WANDA look on.
WANDA and VELMA (D):  WHAT?
CECELIA:  Well, I tried to tell you, dears, but you wouldn't listen.
SCOOBY:  Rhost rat?  Roh, rother!

PANEL TWO
The DISTINGUISHED GENTLEMAN enters Wanda's tent as FRED addresses him.
GENTLEMAN:  Pardon--I'm Inspector Morris of the Bath police. I've been following this fair for months trying to uncover their scams.
GENTLEMAN:  Is there a problem here?
FRED:  Wanda the Wise is running a crooked Psychic Fair and tried to steal Cecelia Fogbottom's treasure.
GENTLEMAN:  Did she?  And why is that?

PANEL THREE
WANDA confesses to GENTLEMAN, FRED, and CECELIA.
WANDA:  This fair is nearly broke--I figured if I if I could fool you kids, the publicity would help business and the money from the treasure would pay off my debts!
FRED:  Maybe you'd get more business if you told people fortune telling is for fun, not for fate.
CECELIA:  But my treasure is only valuable to me.
CECELIA:  They're my mother's old recipes!

PANEL FOUR
SHAGGY and SCOOBY are relieved the adventure is over, ready for another snack, much to CECELIA's wonderment.
SHAGGY:  That's treasure enough for me!  Let's eat!
CECELIA:  I thought you just ate, dear!
SHAGGY:  That was ten minutes ago!

PANEL FIVE
The GANG walk out of the tent.  SHAGGY, SCOOBY, and CECELIA lead the way.  Behind them, FRED, VELMA, DAPHNE, and the GENTLEMAN escort the defeated WANDA.
SHAGGY:  But, like, one question, Inspector Morris--How did you know we'd face great danger if we went into the restaurant?  Are you psychic?
GENTLEMAN:  Heavens, no!  Anyone who goes into Susie Lynn's is in danger of overeating.  The food's too good.
SCOOBY:  Rhy'll ray!  Rooby rooby roooo!
CAPTION:  The end.
